Job description

Ipswich & Colchester Region | Company Car Provided

At British Solar Renewables (BSR), we are a leading provider of Operations & Maintenance (O&M) services across solar PV and battery storage assets throughout the UK. We have built our reputation on delivering expert services safely, effectively, and responsibly. Safety is at the heart of everything we do, with our guiding principle: Home Safe - Every Day.

We're looking for a Service Technician to support a portfolio of solar and battery storage sites across the Ipswich and Colchester region. This is a field-based position and candidates must live within a commutable distance of these locations. You'll spend much of your time working outdoors, maintaining and optimising renewable energy assets to ensure they achieve their performance, availability and safety objectives.

Applicants will need to live in Ipswich, Colchester, Chelmsford and Braintree or surrounding areas.

The Role: As a Service Technician, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of assigned solar PV and battery storage sites. Working closely with regional support teams and stakeholders, you'll deliver planned and reactive maintenance activities while ensuring the highest standards of safety and compliance. This is a permanent position and includes participation in a weekend on-call rota.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance on electrical, communications, auxiliary, mechanical, structural, grounds maintenance and security systems.
  • Respond to faults, diagnose issues and undertake repairs to minimise downtime.
  • Conduct inspections, collect site data and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Complete and manage event log tickets, timesheets and stock inventory records.
  • Work in accordance with site access, security and operational procedures.
  • Follow all BSR Health & Safety policies, risk assessments, safe systems of work and HV/LV safety rules.
  • Support and contribute to the continuous improvement of the Quality Management System.
  • Supervise and induct contractors, suppliers, visitors and other site personnel.
  • Participate in site-based, classroom and occasional overseas training activities.
  • Travel to other sites and regions when required, including occasional overnight stays.

About You Essential:

  • Qualified Electrician or Electrical Engineer with strong technical knowledge.
  • BS7671 qualification (latest edition).
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • High attention to detail and a proactive approach.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly document and explain technical solutions.
  • Positive, collaborative and solution-focused attitude.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Full clean UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Authorised Person (AP) or Senior Authorised Person (SAP) status.
  • Inspection and Testing qualifications (C&G 2391 or 2394/2395), or working towards them.
  • Solar PV installation and maintenance experience, including systems over 50kWp and G59/G99 connections.
  • Solar PV qualifications such as C&G 2372 or C&G 2399.
  • Experience working with central inverters including SMA, Power Electronics, Gamesa, Ingeteam or Sungrow.
  • Experience with HV switchgear and high-voltage systems.
  • ECS, SSSTS and valid First Aid certification.
  • Previous experience within utility-scale solar or renewable energy environments.

What's in It for You?

  • Company car
  • Annual bonus scheme to recognise your contribution
  • 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, with the option to carry over up to 5 days
  • Private health insurance
  • Life insurance
  • Pension scheme
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption policies
  • Employee Assistance Programme with 24/7 support
  • Funded professional membership each year
  • Employee referral scheme
  • Long service recognition scheme
  • Hybrid working options where role requirements allow
  • Monthly social events including team lunches, breakfasts, volunteering days, and summer and Christmas celebrations

Join Us This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing renewable energy business and play a key role in supporting the UK's transition to a cleaner energy future. You'll be part of a collaborative team where safety, development and making a positive impact are at the heart of everything we do.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
