Arbor Café Hot Cook

$20/hr-$23/hr

Create Exceptional Food. Reduce Waste. Make a Difference.

Are you a passionate cook who believes great food and sustainability go hand in hand? We're looking for an innovative Arbor Café Cook to join our culinary team and help create fresh, flavorful dining experiences while supporting environmentally responsible food practices.In this role, you'll work alongside our Executive Chef to prepare high-quality hot and cold menu offerings for multiple dining venues, including Holly Terrace, Bistro, Health Care neighborhoods, Arbor Café, and Catering Services. This is an exciting opportunity for a culinary professional who enjoys creativity in the kitchen and understands the value of repurposing ingredients, reducing food waste, and supporting a sustainability-focused dining program.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare and produce high-quality hot and cold menu items for residents, guests, and catered events.
  • Follow production sheets, standardized recipes, and portion guidelines to ensure consistency and excellence.
  • Support sustainability initiatives through food repurposing, waste reduction, composting practices, and environmentally conscious food preparation.
  • Transform leftover ingredients into creative and delicious menu offerings.
  • Assist with maintaining high standards of food quality, presentation, safety, and sanitation.
  • Collaborate with the culinary team to execute daily menus efficiently and effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with all Health Department regulations and food safety standards.
  • Contribute ideas for sustainable, vegetarian, vegan, and wellness-focused menu options.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of hot cook experience, including at least 1 year in an institutional dining environment or equivalent training.
  • Strong understanding of food preparation methods, cooking techniques, and kitchen operations.
  • Knowledge of Health Department regulations regarding food preparation, storage, cooling, and reheating.
  • Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
  • Excellent knife skills and experience working with fresh meats and vegetables.
  • Ability to accurately assess portions and maintain recipe consistency.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow recipes and production schedules.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of sustainable culinary practices, composting, zero-waste initiatives, and food waste reduction.
  • Experience repurposing ingredients and creating innovative menu items from available products.
  • Familiarity with vegetarian, vegan, and raw food preparation techniques.
  • Passion for environmentally responsible dining and culinary innovation.

Certifications

  • Ability to obtain and successfully complete: ServSafe Certification Allergen Awareness Certification
