The posting

The Craftsworker Carpenter role is far more than traditional carpentry. It blends skilled craftsmanship, creative problem-solving, and innovative construction to bring unique ideas to life. This position requires strong mathematical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to think outside the box when designing and building one-of-a-kind solutions. Experience in custom woodworking, set design, or specialty fabrication is a plus.

One day may involve repairing roofs, fences, doors, windows, or ADA access systems; the next could mean constructing safety barriers for animal exhibits, restoring wood structures, or maintaining specialized enclosure equipment. The true excitement of the role lies in its variety and creativity. Past projects have included building a custom conference table, designing and fabricating an automatic animal feeder disguised as a tree, and or constructing various exhibit elements such as lifelike artificial plants, rocks, and trees. This is a role where technical skill meets imagination, offering the opportunity to build everything from practical infrastructure to extraordinary, one-of-a-kind creations that enhance both guest and animal experiences. The Craftworker Carpenter, contributes to the success of Brookfield Zoo Chicago (“BZC”) by performing, with direct guidance, skilled and semi-skilled craftsworker duties throughout the park, providing a safe environment for guests, staff, and the animal collection. Ensure a functional and well-maintained environment that supports BZC’s mission and identified operating goals, including providing an exceptional guest experience.

The Craftsworker Carpenter is a full-time, hourly, union position grade U440 with a pay rate of $34.00 per hour. Please follow this link or copy and paste it in your internet browser to see Compensation and Benefits Summary.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
