The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Engineer (Security Clearance Required) based in the United States.

We are seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to lead the architecture and development of advanced security technologies that help organizations understand and assess their external attack surfaces. In this hands-on technical leadership role, you will build scalable full-stack systems that transform diverse data sources into reliable, traceable security intelligence. You will have significant autonomy over technical decisions, shaping the architecture and engineering practices that support critical business outcomes. Working across modern web technologies, cloud infrastructure, databases, and emerging AI capabilities, you will create a flexible framework that makes integrating new sources of intelligence faster and more efficient. This opportunity is ideal for an engineer who combines strong software development expertise with cybersecurity knowledge, analytical thinking, and a passion for solving complex technical challenges. The role offers a primarily remote, hybrid working arrangement with occasional onsite collaboration and requires an active Secret security clearance.

Accountabilities

  • Lead technical initiatives across the full software development stack, taking ownership of system architecture, implementation, and engineering decisions.
  • Design and develop external attack surface management technology that builds a comprehensive view of target organizations, including domains, hosts, software, people, registrations, and customer-provided documents.
  • Build a reliable framework for collecting, organizing, and interpreting security intelligence, clearly distinguishing observed facts from inferences and preserving the provenance of each data point.
  • Ensure security analysts can understand where information originated, how conclusions were reached, and how human assessments influence the final intelligence.
  • Develop a flexible architecture that allows new intelligence sources to be integrated efficiently without requiring extensive custom development for each addition.
  • Build and maintain modern web applications using TypeScript, JavaScript, React, and relevant frameworks, with Next.js preferred.
  • Implement secure authentication and authorization mechanisms using technologies such as OAuth2 and JSON Web Tokens (JWT).
  • Design and maintain data access layers and relational database integrations using tools such as Prisma, Drizzle, and PostgreSQL.
  • Build and improve CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployment workflows across platforms such as Vercel, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to translate business and security requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Apply strong debugging, analytical, and problem-solving skills to address complex engineering challenges and improve system reliability.
  • Explore and implement AI-enabled capabilities, including large language model integrations and agent-based workflows, where they provide meaningful value to the product.
  • At least 7 years of professional software development experience.
  • An active U.S. Secret security clearance is required.
  • Strong proficiency in TypeScript and modern JavaScript.
  • Extensive experience building web applications with React and modern JavaScript frameworks; Next.js experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with authentication and authorization standards and technologies, including OAuth2 and JWT.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and cloud deployment platforms such as Vercel, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
  • Practical experience with object-relational mapping (ORM) frameworks and relational databases, particularly Prisma, Drizzle, and PostgreSQL.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture and the ability to make independent technical decisions for complex systems.
  • Excellent debugging, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Cybersecurity knowledge, including an understanding of penetration testing, open-source intelligence (OSINT), and red-team operations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a technical leadership capacity, take ownership of complex initiatives, and deliver reliable, maintainable software.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to translate complex requirements into clear technical solutions.
  • Preferred: Hands-on experience integrating large language model APIs, including services from OpenAI or Anthropic, and developing AI-powered applications.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with AI orchestration frameworks and agent-based systems.
  • Ability to meet the role's physical requirements, including remaining stationary for approximately 50% of the workday and carrying or moving a laptop as needed. Reasonable accommodations are available.
  • Willingness to work in a hybrid arrangement, primarily from home with some onsite work in the Huntsville, Alabama area.
  • Base salary: $151,360–$189,200 per year. Actual compensation depends on qualifications, geographic location, education and certifications, experience, skill set, training, and business needs. Candidates are not typically hired at the top of the range.
  • Potential additional compensation: Eligibility for a discretionary bonus program or commission plan, subject to the applicable program rules and individual and organizational performance.
  • Remote-work flexibility: Primarily work from home, with some onsite work required.
  • Technical ownership: Significant discretion over architecture and technical decisions, with the opportunity to shape important security technology.
  • Innovative engineering environment: Opportunities to work with modern full-stack technologies, cloud platforms, cybersecurity intelligence, and emerging AI applications.
  • Collaborative culture: An inclusive environment that values diverse backgrounds, perspectives, teamwork, and individual contributions.
  • Accessibility support: Reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities throughout the hiring process and in performing essential job functions.
  • Healthcare, paid time off, and retirement benefits: Specific details were not provided in the supplied job description and should be confirmed with the hiring team.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
