The posting

**YOU MUST BE IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE - COMMUTABLE DISTANCE FROM LEEDS**

Burendo is a Leeds head quartered delivery and transformation consultancy, specialising in supporting both large and SME organisations to improve their Agile adoption and delivery processes. Making transformation and delivery possible by inspiring people and organisations is our mission. Our clients span multiple industries and countries, and our consultants and coaches use a blend of tools and techniques, obtained through practical experience, to help teams improve the capabilities and outcomes of our clients.

At Burendo, we believe testing is the responsibility of everyone, but we need experienced Test Engineers to help guide our clients in how to ensure quality in a modern, agile environment. We need Testers who can not only do but, importantly, can advocate and evangelise for testing in the right way.

As a Senior Test Engineer at Burendo, you will work with clients to help guide their testing strategy and help them focus on quality. You may be writing automated checks, participating or running 3 Amigos sessions, getting involved with tool selection and pipelines or other activities but your focus is on being an advocate for testing in the right way and leading the strategic quality discussions.

We have a new project kicking off in early November, so we’re looking for someone who can start immediately. The project requires SC clearance, so you’ll need to hold it already or be eligible to obtain it. Non-UK citizens must have at least five years’ continuous UK residency.

Requirements

Essential behaviours

These matter most to us. We can teach skills, but behaviours are much harder to teach.

  • An analytical, questioning mind that doesn’t take things at face value
  • Pragmatic when needed
  • A focus on quality at every stage of the software development life cycle
  • A great communicator with both technical and non-technical people
  • A test-first mindset, rather than sticking rigidly to a methodology
  • A focus on testing early and often
  • A drive to push testing close to the code and create quick feedback cycles
  • Strong leadership skills, both internally and with clients

Essential skills

You’ll need a few skills to pick the role up quickly, but it’s not a long list.

  • A strong understanding of being a testing leader in an agile environment
  • Experience creating test strategies and collaborating to deliver them
  • Using automation in the appropriate places
  • E2E testing of React applications (Playwright, Cypress or Selenium), including authenticated flows
  • API and integration testing, ideally of .NET services with OIDC/JWT, using tools such as Postman or JMeter
  • CI/CD and continuous testing experience (e.g. Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions), including containerised test environments
  • Ability to understand and debug code in IDEs such as Visual Studio or IntelliJ
  • Understanding of BDD and its benefits and drawbacks
  • Experience of source code management
  • Ability to influence non-functional requirements
  • Ability to quickly understand new systems
  • Background in a regulated or safety-critical sector (healthcare, defence or similar)

Desirable skills

These are the cherry-on-top skills that will help you stand out. Still give us a shout if you don’t have them yet!

  • Experience in 3 Amigos sessions
  • Cloud experience, particularly AWS
  • Experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Code analysis tools such as SonarQube
  • Building CI/CD pipelines with GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions
  • Performance testing with tools such as Locust or JMeter
  • Infrastructure-as-code, such as Terraform
  • Unit testing tools for scripting languages, such as Mocha or Jest
  • Writing automation in Python, JavaScript, Java or C#
  • Understanding TDD and when to use it

Benefits

  • 25 days Annual Leave (plus bank holidays)
  • An additional day of paid leave for celebrations
  • 1 additional day of holiday after 2 years' service (26 days total) and another 2 days after 5 years (28 days total)
  • Monthly Wellness Allowance
  • Annual Learning and Development Allowance
  • Paid time off for Life Events
  • Matched Employer Contributed Pension (5%)
  • Life assurance based on 4 x your salary
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Enhanced Family Leave
  • Eligibility for a 6-month sabbatical after 3 years’ service
  • Enhanced company sick pay
  • A range of optional Salary Sacrifice benefits (inc EV Scheme, Home and Tech, Cycle to Work and Pension)
  • Exciting calendar of Burendo social events and activities

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

The numbers game

More applications. More interviews.

Every application goes out with its own CV, written for that posting and paid once. Send enough of them and the law of large numbers finds you the job.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once per CV, from $25. Every application goes out with its own CV, written for that posting.
