Position Summary:

The Principal SAP Retail POS Consultant serves as the primary Point of Sale (POS) subject matter expert for Department of Defense (DoD) SAP S/4HANA implementations supporting Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) entities. This role ensures the SAP Retail and Customer Activity Repository (CAR) solution aligns with the client exchange's operational goals and financial reporting requirements. The consultant guides the design of compliant retail structures and processes and serves as a critical bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders, ensuring the system supports the unique retail processes, payment types, and inventory management needs of a global military retailer.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the primary POS subject matter expert for DoD S/4HANA implementations supporting NAF entities, ensuring the SAP Retail and CAR solution aligns with the client exchange's operational goals and financial reporting requirements.
  • Advises on retail structure design that supports a global network of stores, distribution centers, and e-commerce channels, including unique site types such as ship stores.
  • Architects sales and payment processes for exchange-specific scenarios, including tax-free sales and payment methods such as the Military STAR Card, gift cards, and layaway programs.
  • Advises on inventory management and replenishment strategies, including direct store delivery (DSD), cross-docking, and allocation of goods to stores worldwide.
  • Ensures the system provides accurate sales and margin reporting, supports the financial closing process for a NAF Instrumentality, and maintains a clear audit trail for all transactions.
  • Leads Fit-to-Standard workshops that translate business rules for merchandising, pricing, promotions, and loss prevention into standard SAP Retail processes.
  • Oversees the functional design of interfaces between S/4HANA, CAR, and external systems, including e-commerce platforms, warehouse management systems (WMS), and payment processors.
  • Guides the master data strategy, including a complex article master with variants (size and color), vendor data, and customer information for loyalty programs.
  • Oversees the conversion of legacy sales, inventory, and master data into the S/4HANA and CAR environment.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor to client leadership on how SAP Retail and CAR can improve operational efficiency, enhance the customer experience, and provide better analytics for merchandising and store performance.
  • Acts as the bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders, presenting complex retail system designs to executives and business leaders.
  • Mentors and trains functional consultants on exchange business terminology, operational procedures, and the specific challenges of military retail.
  • Identifies opportunities to leverage SAP solutions for omnichannel retailing, including buy online, pick up in store (BOPIS) and a unified view of the customer across all channels.
  • Adheres to all certified processes as part of our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of quality and information security, which includes actively participating in quality assurance activities and ensuring the protection of sensitive information in accordance with our security policies.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by direct supervisor.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Information Systems, Supply Chain Management, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 10 years without a Bachelor's degree, including extensive experience with large-scale retail systems, preferably SAP Retail, CAR, or S/4HANA for Retail.
  • Subject matter expertise in retail operations, particularly merchandising, store operations, and supply chain for a multichannel retailer.
  • Proven track record in major retail system implementations.
  • Strong understanding of retail financial concepts, including margin analysis, inventory valuation, and sales auditing.
  • Familiarity with the business model of NAF entities and military retail operations (e.g., NEX, AAFES, MCX).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex retail system designs to executives and business leaders.
  • Industry-recognized certification, such as SAP certification in S/4HANA Retail, SAP CAR, or a related SAP Retail area.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active government clearance (requires U.S. citizenship).

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with the Military STAR Card program.
  • Experience implementing SAP Retail or CAR for a DoD, military exchange, or other federal organization.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
