Supporting Crew Member

Description

The Second-in-Command Mentor (SCM) Program at CAE is designed to train and qualify members to provide right‑seat support for clients participating in FAA‑approved 14 CFR 142 curriculum courses. This on‑call position, based in Dallas, TX, is ideal for pilots who wish to remain active in aviation without the extensive travel demands typical of line flying.

SCMs support a diverse range of trainees—including FAA Part 135 and 91 operators, EASA trainees, and clients from various NAAs. While a type rating is not required, SCMs must maintain proficiency as qualified crew members. Responsibilities may also include simulator evaluation support for CAE or external authorities.

CAE provides a comprehensive training program to elevate instructional effectiveness and CRM skills. Successful candidates demonstrate strong professionalism, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering a high‑quality training experience.

The program is well suited for both aspiring aviation students who meet minimum criteria and experienced pilots seeking stability while staying connected to cockpit operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Commercial Pilot or Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) certificate
  • Airplane Multi-Engine Land (MEL)
  • Instrument Rating – Airplane Multi-Engine Land
  • Minimum 50 hours multi‑engine and instrument experience

  • Must meet all TSA requirements
  • Must reside within the Dallas, TX area
  • Availability for 10–15 workdays per month
  • Ability to complete up to 3 weeks of initial training
  • Ability to work 11+ hour days, with no more than 6 hours in the simulator at a time
  • Availability to work any day and time, based on declared availability
  • Commitment to previously scheduled training sessions
  • Ability to provide at least 35 events within a rolling 12‑month period
  • Scheduling availability of at least 5‑hour blocks, operable 24/7

Preferred Qualifications

  • 100+ hours turbine time
  • Previous CRM, flight instruction, or aviation training experience
  • Strong customer service background (“red carpet service”)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to foster a welcoming, professional, and effective learning environment

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
