Job Title - IP Lawyer

About the Role

We are seeking a highly-skilled and commercially-aware IP Lawyer to manage and protect the organisation' s intellectual property assets, including trademarks, patents, copyrights and trade secrets. The role involves both strategic oversight of the IP portfolio and day-to-day execution of IP registration, enforcement and licensing. The successful candidate will work closely with business, marketing, product and external counsel to ensure the company's IP rights are secured, optimised and defended.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement a comprehensive IP strategy: design annual filing/renewal road-map by IP asset type, territory and class.

Conduct IP clearance searches and advise on go/no-go decisions for trademarks, patents, designs and domains.

Manage the prosecution process: oversee filings, responses to examiner actions, renewals, recordals and docket maintenance.

Monitor and manage IP enforcement and disputes: oppositions/cancellations, takedowns, domain recovery, customs seizures, platform enforcement, litigation support.

Draft, review and negotiate IP-related clauses in commercial contracts, licensing, technology and distribution agreements.

Provide internal advice/training to stakeholders (product, marketing, sales) on IP usage, brand protection and risk mitigation.

Maintain an audit-ready IP registry and create performance reports and dashboards for senior management.

Engage and manage external counsel, agents and service-providers; monitor budgets and deliverables.

Stay up to date with IP laws, regulations and best practices in the UAE/GCC region and globally; propose process improvements and implement SOPs.

Qualifications & Experience

Law degree (LL.B. / J.D.) with admission to practise in at least one jurisdiction.

Minimum 5-7 years (or higher for senior roles) of hands-on IP experience, preferably in the UAE/GCC region, including prosecution, enforcement and licensing matters.

Strong track record in trademark/patent prosecution, brand protection, domain disputes, takedowns, and multi-jurisdictional IP matters.

Proven drafting/negotiation skills for contracts, licensing and commercial transactions.

Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder-management skills; able to work cross-functionally and deliver under pressure.

High integrity and sound judgment; ability to handle confidential matters and act with commercial awareness.

Proficiency in MS Office; experience with IP management systems or brand protection tools is an advantage.

Fluency in English; Arabic proficiency is highly desirable.

Key Competencies & Behaviours

Strategic thinker: able to align IP work with business objectives and see the broader commercial impact.

Detail-oriented and organised: strong at managing deadlines, docketing, and prioritising multiple matters.

Influential and collaborative: able to lead, advise and build relationships with business teams and external partners.

Problem-solver: comfortable dealing with complex and evolving IP issues in a dynamic environment.

Results-driven and proactive: takes ownership, acts with urgency and drives improvements in processes and outcomes.

What We Offer

Competitive salary and benefits package, reflective of the market in the UAE.

Exposure to end-to-end IP work within a dynamic and growing organisation.

Opportunity to influence the strategy and protection of valuable brand and product assets.

Professional development and growth path within the legal/ IP function.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
