The posting

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled, assertive, and strategic IP Counsel for Litigation & Enforcement to join our Global Legal Group. This is a critical role dedicated to aggressively protecting and enforcing our company's valuable intellectual property rights across the globe.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned litigator with deep, hands-on experience managing a wide array of IP disputes, including trademark, copyright, patent, and trade secret matters. You will be responsible for developing and executing robust global enforcement strategies, ranging from sophisticated online brand protection and anti-piracy actions to complex, cross-border litigation. This position requires a proactive, commercially-minded leader who can work collaboratively with legal and business teams worldwide to safeguard our brands and innovations in a fast-paced global environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. IP Litigation Management

  • Manage a global portfolio of high-stakes IP litigation, including trademark and copyright infringement lawsuits, patent disputes, and trade secret misappropriation cases.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive litigation strategies, from initial case assessment and pre-litigation counseling through discovery, trial, and appeal.
  • Select, instruct, and manage outside counsel across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring effective, high-quality, and cost-efficient case handling.
  • Draft and review complex legal briefs, pleadings, motions, and settlement agreements.
  • Represent the company in direct negotiations, mediations, and other alternative dispute resolution (ADR) proceedings.

2. Global IP Enforcement & Brand Protection

  • Design and implement a proactive, worldwide IP enforcement program to combat infringement, counterfeiting, and piracy across physical and digital channels.
  • Oversee critical online brand protection efforts, including managing domain name disputes (UDRP), social media takedowns, and marketplace monitoring and enforcement.
  • Manage global trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings to protect the integrity of our brand portfolio.
  • Collaborate with customs authorities and law enforcement agencies globally to execute anti-counterfeiting strategies and physical seizures.
  • Advise on complex issues related to intermediary liability and safe harbor provisions.

3. Strategic Counseling & Risk Mitigation

  • Provide expert legal advice to business, marketing, and product teams on IP risks associated with new products, marketing campaigns, and business initiatives.
  • Conduct thorough IP-related due diligence for M&A and other corporate transactions.
  • Assist the broader IP team in developing and refining global IP prosecution and portfolio management strategies based on enforcement trends and litigation outcomes.
  • Educate and train internal stakeholders on best practices for IP protection and risk management across the organization.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Jurisdiction: Qualified to practice law in a major common law or civil law jurisdiction (e.g., UK, USA, EU member state, etc.).
  • Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant post-qualification experience (PQE) with a primary focus on intellectual property litigation and enforcement. This experience should be gained at a top-tier law firm and/or a multinational in-house legal department.
  • Global Exposure: Demonstrable, hands-on experience managing a variety of IP disputes (trademark, copyright, patent, trade secret) across multiple international jurisdictions.
  • Strategy: Proven track record in developing and executing comprehensive online and offline brand protection strategies.
  • Knowledge: Strong knowledge of international IP laws, treaties, and enforcement frameworks.
  • Skills: Excellent negotiation, advocacy, and legal drafting skills.
  • Mindset: Ability to think strategically and provide commercially-oriented legal advice in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Management: Exceptional project management skills with the ability to independently manage a large and diverse caseload.
  • Desirable: Experience in the technology, entertainment, gaming, or consumer products industries is highly desirable.

Education

  • LL.B., J.D., or equivalent law degree from a reputable university.
  • Admission to the Bar in a recognized jurisdiction is required.
  • A Master's degree (LL.M.) specializing in Intellectual Property Law is a strong asset.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
