From requirements capture and circuit design through to prototyping, test, validation, and production, you will play a key role in developing the avionics and other electronic systems at the heart of our platforms. Working across areas such as embedded systems, power electronics, sensor networks, RF, high-speed digital, and electro-mechanical systems, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver reliable, high-performance products. You will take designs from initial concept through manufacture and qualification, helping bring advanced technologies from development into real-world operation.

Responsibilities

  • Translate System requirement into hardware requirements, interface definitions, design assumptions and verification objectives.
  • Ownership of the entire design including schematics , design documentation, circuit analysis and multilayer PCB layouts for embedded, mixed signal, high speed digital, RF, and power electronics using industry standard CAD tools
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines such as Software, FPGA and Mechanical Engineering to develop hardware architectures for complex and demanding system applications.
  • Plan and execute structured hardware prototyping, bring-up, debugging, robustness testing, fault injection, environmental testing and verify designs against requirements.
  • Contribute to the testing of electronics subsystems including embedded systems, electro-mechanical systems, power distribution, sensor nodes and processing systems.
  • Own electronic designs as they are scaled up for production & manufacture and taken through qualification testing for reliability, environmental and EMC standards compliance.
  • Assess existing and new electronics architecture and designs with regards to user requirements, robustness, failure behaviours, testability and future qualifications.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in electronics development, ideally within high reliability, mission critical or safety-critical applications such as avionics, space, automotive, medical, industrial safety.
  • Degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

  • Hands-on professional experience in designing PCB using CAD design tools (e.g., Altium, KiCad, Cadence)
  • Experience with embedded hardware, microcontrollers, and digital interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, LVDS, etc.)
  • Practical hands on experience with hardware bring-up, debugging, and structured testing using lab test & measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analysers, logic analysers.
  • Understanding of EMC/EMI design principles
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and standards.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Experience in fast-paced R&D or startup environments, with rapid prototype iteration times
  • Experience of designing complex electronics hardware for volume production and manufacturing scale up
  • Experience of delivering electronics designs for defence applications and environments
  • Strong knowledge of power electronics or electro-mechanical systems

About Us

The mission of Cambridge Aerospace is to eliminate the risk of existential war in Europe. That risk comes from the air – low-cost drones and cruise missiles now manufactured in colossal volumes by our adversaries, ballistic missiles capable of ending the world as we know it, and a new generation of hypersonic weapons that evade every existing defence.

We’re building low-cost interceptors that defeat these threats, and the surveillance systems to detect and target them – at a cost taxpayers can afford, at the pace the threat demands, and with sovereign supply chains that assure delivery.

We have immense backing from the world’s best venture funds. We’re one of the fastest growing defence technology companies in history. And we’re hiring the best engineers to prosecute the mission.

If you are in the top 1%, willing to work harder than you ever have, build technology better than anyone else, and contribute to the defining challenge of our time, now is the time to join us.

Our Commitment to Inclusion

We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. If you’re excited about this role but don’t meet every requirement, we still encourage you to apply.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
