About Alternative Investment Platform (AIP)
The Alternative Investment Platform (AIP) is a global team comprised of 100+ alternative investment professionals across 13 offices, including New York, San Francisco, Miami, Dallas, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, Albany, Zurich, London, Dubai, Hong Kong, Bengaluru, Shanghai, and Singapore. The team is responsible for ~$200B in AUS, serving institutions, foundations, family offices, high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals for Goldman Sachs Wealth Management. AIP, one of the leading allocators globally, includes the Alternative Capital Markets business, focused on curating a best-in-class alternatives platform and client experience across Goldman Sachs managed and externally managed strategies. The team curates investment opportunities for clients across the alternatives landscape, advises on building alternatives portfolios, and manages discretionary portfolios through our Alternatives Portfolio Services (APS) platform. AIP also includes our Private Company Investments (PCI) team and Secondary Advisory Group (SAG). PCI provides access to best-in-class private company investments in the form of direct investments, co-investments alongside GS and external managers, and connecting clients directly to private companies for investment. SAG is, a leading private markets secondary solutions team, structures and facilitates liquidity solutions for Goldman Sachs clients across AIP and has built capabilities to help teams and clients think about active portfolio management in Alternatives while structuring unique liquidity opportunities across the portfolio.
The Secondary Advisory Group is a leading private markets secondary solutions team that advises clients on liquidity, portfolio optimization, and secondary investment opportunities. The team executes transactions across private fund interests, direct company exposures, structured liquidity solutions, and Goldman Sachs-sponsored investment vehicles. Leveraging deep market expertise and a broad investor network, SAG helps clients actively manage private market portfolios while providing access to differentiated secondary market opportunities in one of the fastest-growing segments of alternative investing.
Role Overview
This Associate role offers the opportunity to play a key role in the continued growth and evolution of the Secondary Advisory Group. The individual will support the origination, underwriting, and execution of complex secondary transactions, delivering analytical insight, transaction support, and strategic advice to clients pursuing liquidity solutions.
As a core member of the deal team, the Associate will be responsible for financial modeling, portfolio valuation, preparation of client-facing materials, and coordination of transaction processes. The role includes managing due diligence workflows, evaluating bids, and supporting the execution of sophisticated secondary transactions across a range of asset classes and structures. Beyond transaction execution, the Associate will contribute to the ongoing development and scalability of the business, helping enhance processes, deepen client relationships, and support the expansion of the firm's secondary advisory platform.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Underwriting & Valuation
- Transaction Pricing & Analytics: Perform valuation, performance, and pricing analyses to support underwriting recommendations, assess transaction dynamics, and inform client decision-making.
- Market Intelligence: Conduct research on industry trends, fund managers, and secondary market activity to support transaction execution and strategic client advice.
- Financial Analysis & Valuation: Develop and maintain financial models to assess private equity, venture capital, private credit, real estate, and other private market portfolios and assets.
Transaction Execution & Client Deliverables
- Transaction Execution: Support the execution of complex secondary transactions, coordinating key workstreams across the transaction lifecycle from initial underwriting through closing.
- Marketing & Advisory Materials: Prepare high-quality client deliverables, including transaction marketing materials, analytical presentations, teasers, confidential information memorandums, and strategic advisory content.
- Due Diligence & Bid Evaluation: Manage due diligence processes, data room administration, and transaction workflows, while analyzing buyer indications and bids to develop actionable recommendations for clients.
Business Development & Client Engagement
- Market Coverage & Investor Engagement: Support buyer and seller outreach efforts by identifying prospective counterparties, developing market intelligence, and helping maintain relationships across the secondary ecosystem.
- Stakeholder Coordination: Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including legal, compliance, fund managers, and investors, to facilitate transaction execution, documentation, and successful closings.
- Client Advisory Support: Contribute to client communications, transaction updates, and strategic discussions, helping deliver thoughtful liquidity solutions and a high-quality client experience.
EXPERIENCE / SKILLS
- Bachelors Degree or higher.
- 3+ years of experience in investment banking, secondary advisory, private equity, valuations, or a highly analytical role within asset management.
- Strong financial modeling, valuation, and quantitative skills.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Active Series 7 and Series 63 licenses preferred or the ability to obtain them shortly after joining
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate financial concepts.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple transaction timelines simultaneously.
- High attention to detail, strong commercial awareness, and a proactive, self-starter attitude.
Salary Range The expected base salary for this New York, NY, United States-based position is $85000-$160000. In addition, you may be eligible for a discretionary bonus if you are an active employee as of fiscal year-end.
