Job Description

Risk, Capital Risk, Associate, New York

Role Overview

The Capital Risk team, within the Risk Division, provides independent oversight and challenge of the firm’s capital management framework and regulatory capital interpretations. The team assesses complex capital matters, advises on firmwide capital management decisions, and escalates significant interpretations to senior management and the appropriate risk committees.

The team monitors, analyzes, interprets, and challenges regulatory capital requirements and capital management processes. It also provides independent second-line review of regulatory capital interpretations by assessing ambiguity in regulatory text, challenging interpretative conclusions, and promoting consistent, well-supported, and defensible implementation across the firm.

This role involves close collaboration with stakeholders across the firm, including trading desks, Controllers, Legal, Corporate Treasury, and Strats, and requires a strong risk management mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret capital regulations and determine the appropriate capital treatment for individual transactions, new products, and business proposals.
  • Provide independent oversight and challenge of the firm’s capital management framework, including capital adequacy assessments and capital distribution strategies.
  • Monitor market and macroeconomic developments and assess their potential impact on risk-weighted assets and capital requirements.
  • Partner with Strats to perform scenario analysis supporting capital planning and stress testing.
  • Communicate clear, well-supported analysis of complex regulatory capital matters to senior management, businesses, Risk, and other stakeholders.
  • Review and challenge regulatory capital methodologies, calculations, assumptions, and implementation approaches to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assess the capital impact of regulatory developments and emerging prudential standards, and provide independent risk perspectives on implementation and strategic business decisions.

Skills and Experience Required

  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in capital management, corporate treasury, risk management, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of regulatory capital frameworks and the ability to interpret regulatory requirements, including 12 CFR Part 217, Basel III, G-SIB requirements, and the supplementary leverage ratio (SLR).
  • Demonstrated ability to independently assess, challenge, and defend regulatory interpretations with senior stakeholders and control functions.
  • Experience with capital planning and stress testing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate and defend technical analysis to senior stakeholders and cross-functional audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to research and analyze technical regulatory materials and form a view on risk implications.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple evolving projects and priorities.
  • Proactive and collaborative working style, with the ability to take ownership of issues and drive them to resolution.
  • Understanding of banking organizations and financial products, with the ability to assess the regulatory capital implications of new transactions and businesses.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
