Sessional Practice Nursing Pool Cape Breton University invites expressions of interest from individuals qualified in serving Practice Sessional Instructors within the School of Nursing. These appointments are made on an as-needed basis to support student clinical learning experiences throughout the academic year. Position Overview Practice Sessional Instructors are responsible for supervising and supporting nursing students in clinical practice settings while facilitating the integration of theory and practice. Instructors provide guidance, assessment, and feedback to students while ensuring safe, professional, and evidence-informed nursing care. Appointments are typically for 4-6 week clinical placements and may involve working with students from any of the School of Nursing cohorts across Terms 3 to 6. Clinical Placement Locations Clinical placements may occur in a variety of healthcare settings throughout the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM), including:
Cape Breton Regional Hospital Glace Bay Hospital New Waterford Consolidated Hospital Northside General Hospital Long-term care facilities and nursing homes throughout the CBRM
Responsibilities The Practice Sessional Instructor will:
Supervise and mentor nursing students in clinical practice settings. Facilitate student learning and professional development. Evaluate student performance in accordance with School of Nursing policies and clinical learning outcomes. Foster safe, ethical, and professional nursing practice. Communicate and collaborate with healthcare facility staff and School of Nursing faculty. Maintain required clinical and educational documentation.
Qualifications Applicants must possess:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) and current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN); or Registered Nurse Diploma and current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Preference may be given to applicants with:
Recent clinical nursing experience. Experience teaching, preceptoring, or mentoring nursing students. Demonstrated excellence in communication, leadership, and clinical practice.
