Summary
Collect, compile and maintain statistical database of trauma patients admitted to the health system. Maintain registry for the North Carolina Trauma Registry, the National Trauma Registry and the health system.
Major Job Functions
The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job. The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below. In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:
- Identify trauma patient admissions daily, complete data collection sheets and maintain patient log
- Initiate and complete Trauma Registry information, including demographics, injury information, complications and other defined data points
- Assess accuracy of data through validation studies as outlined by the State of North Carolina
- Participate in State Registry meetings
- Provide information concerning trauma statistics and quality assurance as requested
- Participate in trauma research
- Design and revise forms for data collection
- Prepare reports needed to evaluate trauma care
- Maintain Trauma Registry documents and confidentiality of data
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Education and Formal Training:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Medical terminology and coding certification preferred
Work Experience:
- 1 year chart review experiences for QI, UR or coding preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language
- Knowledge of growth and development and skills necessary to provide age appropriate care for the following patient categories: infant (0-12months), toddler (13-30 months), preschooler (31 months-5 years), school age (6-12 years), adolescent (13-18 years), young adulthood (19-30 years), middle adulthood (31-65 years) and older adulthood (>65 years)
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Ability to work independently
- Excellent organizational skills
- Basic computer skills
- Familiarity with ICD-10-CM and ISS codes preferred
- Knowledgeable of the physiological, psychosocial and spiritual needs of the patients typically served
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to hear and express verbally and in writing
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity
- Ability to sit and stand for long periods
- Ability to bend and lift using good body mechanics
- Position may involve skin, eye mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
