The posting

At Carma, we're more than just a car company—we're on a mission to shake up the Australian automotive industry! As a digital pre-owned car dealership, we're turning the car buying (and selling!) experience into a hassle-free, seamless journey that customers can truly enjoy. With our diverse and collaborative team managing everything from engineering to marketing and buying to reconditioning in-house, we're powered by the best people—and we'd love for you to come along for the ride!

As our Operations Capability Lead, you'll play a critical role in shaping the future of our Inspection & Reconditioning Centre (IRC). You'll design the learning frameworks, career pathways and leadership programs that help our operational teams build new skills, grow their careers and deliver exceptional results. From onboarding new starters to developing future leaders, you'll create the capability systems that keep our teams performing at their best while supporting Carma's continued growth.

What you'll be doing:

  • Own and continuously improve Carma's Step Up Program, creating clear pathways for team members to progress into more senior operational roles
  • Build and maintain competency frameworks, skills matrices and career pathways across IRC operations
  • Develop clear capability standards and assessment criteria for operational roles
  • Design and maintain training content, learning resources and competency assessments
  • Coordinate operational onboarding and capability programs, ensuring new starters have the skills and knowledge to succeed
  • Design and deliver the Lead Program to develop Carma's next generation of frontline leaders
  • Coach and support Senior Leads to build capability through structured on-the-job learning and development
  • Maintain the operational readiness register and succession pipeline across IRC functions
  • Partner with operational leaders to identify capability gaps, workforce risks and development priorities
  • Lead cross-training initiatives that improve workforce flexibility and operational resilience
  • Track capability progression and ensure training and competency records are accurate and up to date
  • Measure the effectiveness of capability programs through data, feedback and operational performance
  • Produce regular reporting on capability, succession readiness, onboarding, cross-skilling and internal progression
  • Analyse workforce data and turn insights into practical recommendations for workforce planning and operational decision-making
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational performance through better capability, training and development
  • Coordinate external training providers and accredited learning where required
  • Work closely with People Experience, Talent Acquisition and Operational Leadership to build a strong internal talent pipeline
  • Ensure all capability programs and assessments align with Carma's policies, operational standards and compliance requirements

About you:

  • Experience in Learning & Development, Operational Capability, Organisational Development or Workforce Capability
  • Proven experience designing competency frameworks, structured learning pathways and capability programs
  • Experience developing frontline teams within manufacturing, logistics, automotive, warehousing or similar operational environments
  • Strong understanding of workforce capability, succession planning and internal talent development
  • Experience coaching leaders and influencing stakeholders across different levels of an organisation
  • A genuine interest in helping people develop and creating meaningful career pathways
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple programs and priorities at once
  • Comfortable using data to identify capability gaps, measure outcomes and influence decisions
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with both operational and corporate teams
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented and comfortable working in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment
  • A continuous improvement mindset—you naturally look for ways to make things simpler, better and more scalable
  • Comfortable working with Microsoft Office and learning, workforce management or HR systems
  • Experience working in a high-growth or operationally complex environment will be highly regarded
  • Qualifications in Learning & Development, Human Resources, Organisational Development or a related discipline are highly regarded

What's in it for you?

  • Join one of Australia's fastest-growing automotive businesses and help shape how our operational teams learn, develop and grow
  • Build programs that create real career pathways and future leaders across the business
  • Work alongside passionate operational and People teams in a collaborative, high-growth environment where your ideas genuinely make an impact
  • Our open-plan office comes fuelled with fresh coffee, a snack stash for any craving, and Friday rooftop drinks to keep your energy in the fast lane!
  • Sweet perks because, well, we're a car business—enjoy discounts on Carma cars, parts, and NRMA cover to rev up your ride!

At Carma, we're all about fostering an amazing culture where you can bring your best self to work. We value collaboration, innovation and having a laugh along the way. We're committed to diversity, inclusion and safe work practices, so no matter your background or experience (or car brand of choice!), we'd love to hear from you. Please let us know if you require any reasonable adjustments throughout the interview process.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
