About This Role
Established EH&S professional. Administers EH&S plans and procedures across multiple EH&S specialties, including Health/Safety and Environmental/Compliance. Analyzes facility and employee practice issues for opportunities to apply EH&S procedures to solve problems or improve EH&S policy effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance position and verification
- Maintains a current, evidence-based view of the site's compliance status against applicable EH&S regulatory requirements, and can substantiate it on demand to an auditor, a regulator or Carrier leadership.
- Verifies compliance through direct observation in operating areas and through examination of records — not through assurances that work was completed. Confirms that identified gaps are closed, with documented evidence.
- Investigates non-conformance to root cause, drives corrective action to closure through the accountable owner, and escalates when closure stalls.
Regulatory recordkeeping, reporting and submissions
- Owns the regulatory records, reports and submissions that remain the employer's legal responsibility and cannot be delegated to a contractor or service provider, including incident recordkeeping and determinations, and periodic regulatory submissions under permits and reporting programs.
- Maintains the site's regulatory calendar and works backwards from each deadline so that submissions, renewals, monitoring and recurring inspections are never deadline-driven emergencies.
Oversight of third-party delivery
- Where EH&S services are delivered by external providers, retains accountability for the compliance outcome: sets the scope, verifies the work was performed to standard, and confirms the resulting records satisfy the underlying regulatory requirement.
- Reviews the work of on-site contractors for compliance with site EH&S requirements and escalates non-conformance to the contract owner.
- Identifies where a service provider arrangement creates a gap in retained duties, records custody or independence, and raises it for resolution.
Multi-shift coverage
- Defines and maintains the division of EH&S scope across shifts so that every applicable requirement has a single named owner and nothing falls between shifts.
- Operates the shift handoff: acts on items escalated from off-shift resources, closes the loop in writing, and takes ownership of anything requiring management authorization, expenditure, external coordination or a decision that only exists during core hours.
Programs, training and influence
- Administers EH&S programs and procedures across multiple disciplines; develops and delivers training and communications required by regulation, and adapts them as requirements and operations change.
- Interprets regulatory requirements for operations leadership, supervision and employees in terms of what they must actually do differently, and secures action from people who do not report to them.
- Identifies patterns across findings, incidents and observations, and recommends changes to programs, procedures or engineering controls that address the cause rather than the instance.
Working conditions
- The majority of working time is spent in production, maintenance, storage and yard areas, in required PPE. Regular coordination with off-shift operations is expected.
Required Qualifications
- 3 year’s experience in manufacturing
- Certificate in Nursing or EMT
Preferred Qualifications
- Practical knowledge of Carrier organization, programs or systems with the ability to make enhancements and leverage in daily work
