At carsales, we’re all about making buying and selling a great experience. Since 1997, we’ve been evolving with the new economy to help people choose how they move—today and tomorrow.

When it comes to your career, we want to offer meaningful opportunities that empower you to make a lasting impact. But for that to happen, we strive to feel small, small enough to stay agile, learn across teams, and connect authentically with each other.

With a vision to be the global leader in online vehicle marketplaces, we’re transforming how people buy and sell across the world. We discover new ideas and bring them to life. We continue to grow, and we continue to evolve and we’re not afraid to take bold steps to get there.

What’s on offer:

  • A place where you can move your career forward, where you’ll be continuously backed to make new ideas happen, and the chance to do work that makes real, significant impact in the world.
  • We’re proud to be recognised as one of Australia’s Best Workplaces™ by Great Place to Work®, a Family Friendly Workplace and a WORK180 endorsed employer for women.
  • The support of a highly engaged, high-performing team including a leadership team that you’ll actually have face time with.

Job Description

What you’ll be doing

  • Working within the ACIL tribe you will use your expertise in modern agile practices to contribute to planning, building and supporting great software solutions that deliver quality at scale, automating where possible.
  • Be involved in all aspects of software engineering practices including breaking down work, code review, testing, source control, build processes
  • Collaborate and build great connections with your own team, the wider ACIL Group, and the larger carsales family
  • Create and enhance team culture, by sharing your knowledge and ideas, giving and receiving constructive feedback

Qualifications

What we’re looking for

We build distributed systems using a wide range of tools and technologies. As a Software Engineer, you'll bring deep technical expertise and lead by example. You won’t need to know every tool we use, but strong experience is always highly regarded.

  • Experience with backend development in .NET ecosystems.
  • Strong frontend development experience, Angular or React.
  • Proven track record building event‑driven and distributed systems (e.g. CQRS, Event Sourcing, message queues).
  • Strong knowledge of AWS cloud platform.

  • Familiarity with DevOps practices such as CI/CD, containers, and infrastructure as code.
  • Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability tools.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
