Job Description:

Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

This is Caterpillar

The Director, Advanced Site Connectivity Solutions is a senior leader responsible for defining and delivering the technology that allows machines, devices, people, and systems at customer sites to connect and communicate reliably. This role will lead the strategy for connecting complex environments such as construction sites, mines, and remote operations, where traditional connectivity may not always be available or sufficient. The Director will determine how technologies such as private 5G/LTE, Wi-Fi, satellite, edge computing, and equipment data systems should work together to create reliable, scalable connected-site solutions.

This leader will work across technology, product, engineering, commercial, and business teams to ensure connectivity solutions solve real customer problems, support increasingly autonomous and data-driven operations, and can be successfully deployed across customer sites globally.

What You Will Do:

Strategic Vision & Portfolio Leadership

  • Own the global strategy and portfolio for site connectivity solutions, including investment priorities, project selection, and long-term roadmaps.
  • Define the future vision for how machines, devices, systems, and people connect and share information across customer sites.
  • Identify new technologies, industry developments, and market opportunities that can improve customer operations and strengthen our competitive position.
  • Partner with senior product, engineering, commercial, and business leaders to ensure connectivity investments support customer needs and business growth.
  • Determine which connectivity capabilities should be developed, expanded, standardized, or delivered through external technology partners.

Connectivity Solutions & Technology Leadership

  • Lead the overall strategy for how machines, devices, networks, software platforms, cloud technology, and business systems work together at a connected customer site.
  • Ensure solutions are reliable, secure, scalable, and able to work across different technologies and customer environments.
  • Guide the adoption and deployment of technologies such as private LTE/5G, Wi-Fi, satellite communications, connected equipment, and edge computing.
  • Ensure technology teams and business units are working toward a common approach rather than creating disconnected or duplicative solutions.
  • Provide enough technical leadership to challenge assumptions, make strategic technology decisions, and successfully lead highly experienced technical experts.

Customer & Market Leadership

  • Develop a deep understanding of customer operations, including the challenges of connecting machines and technology across complex, large, or remote locations.
  • Translate customer problems into practical connectivity solutions that improve how their operations perform.
  • Work with product and commercial teams to bring connectivity solutions to market and support customer adoption.
  • Help customers use connectivity to enable capabilities such as automation, autonomous equipment, real-time equipment monitoring, data-driven decision making, and digital services.
  • Develop solutions that can be successfully repeated and scaled across different customers, sites, and geographies.

Execution, Governance & Business Performance

  • Establish clear processes for determining priorities, investments, responsibilities, risks, and expected business outcomes across the connectivity portfolio.
  • Lead multiple large and complex programs through other leaders, ensuring solutions are delivered reliably and effectively.
  • Measure success based on outcomes such as customer adoption, system reliability, ability to scale, cost effectiveness, and customer/business value.
  • Ensure connectivity programs move beyond pilots and demonstrations to solutions that can be deployed successfully across multiple sites.
  • Build a culture of continuous improvement by using customer feedback, operational data, and lessons learned from deployments.

People Leadership & Ecosystem Development

  • Lead and develop a global organization of managers, senior technical leaders, and subject matter experts.
  • Coach and empower leaders to deliver results through their teams while creating a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Build relationships with technology providers and strategic partners that can help accelerate development and deployment of new capabilities.
  • Build the talent, organizational structure, and operating model necessary to support continued growth and global scale.
  • Develop future leaders and strengthen the organization's depth of technical and business expertise.

What You Have (Required Qualifications):

  • Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Technology, Business, or a related field, along with significant experience leading connectivity, technology infrastructure, connected products, or digital solutions in complex environments.
  • Connectivity & Infrastructure Expertise: Experience with several types of connectivity technology, such as private 5G/LTE, Wi-Fi, satellite, connected equipment/IoT, or edge computing, and an understanding of how these technologies work together.
  • Complex Operating Environments: Experience deploying technology into physical operating environments where connectivity, reliability, and access to real-time information are critical.
  • Program & Portfolio Leadership: Proven ability to lead multiple large technology programs or product portfolios simultaneously, including large-scale deployments across multiple locations, sites, or customers.
  • Business & Customer Orientation: Demonstrated ability to connect technology decisions to customer problems, operational improvements, financial considerations, and business value.
  • Leadership: Experience leading large organizations that include managers, senior technical leaders, and highly specialized technical professionals.
  • Delivery Excellence: Experience successfully moving complex technology solutions from strategy and development through deployment and ongoing operation.
  • Stakeholder Management: Strong executive communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across technology, engineering, product, commercial, and business organizations.

What Will Put You Ahead (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Advanced degree such as an MBA, MS, or equivalent.
  • Experience in construction, mining, heavy equipment, manufacturing, energy, utilities, transportation, telecommunications, or other industries with complex physical operating environments.
  • Direct experience with autonomous equipment, connected construction or mining operations, or other highly automated industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of edge computing and how information from machines and devices is processed and used at a customer site.
  • Experience scaling connectivity or technology solutions across multiple sites, customers, countries, or remote locations.
  • Experience working with technology vendors and strategic partners to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity requirements for connected equipment and infrastructure.
  • Program management or agile certifications.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
