Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

Help Build the Future of Caterpillar – Be Part of What's Next in Autonomous Construction Sites

At Caterpillar, technology always has a purpose, which is to solve our customers' toughest challenges. Construction autonomy is one of the most complex challenges in applied AI, and at Caterpillar, advancements in physical AI, simulation, sensing, and edge computing are turning things that once felt impossible—intelligent machines operating in dynamic jobsites—into reality.

Role Definition:

The Simulation Quality Automation Engineer will develop and execute automated quality, integration, and validation solutions for simulation platform, scenario framework, rendering, digital twin, robotics, and autonomy workflows.

Working with the QA Lead and engineering teams, the role will build test software, regression suites, SIL and HIL workflows, metrics, reports, and release-quality evidence for simulation capabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain automated test frameworks and reusable test utilities using Python, C++, or other relevant languages.
  • Create unit, integration, system, regression, performance, reliability, SIL, and HIL tests for simulation platform components and workflows.
  • Translate requirements, acceptance criteria, interfaces, and expected behaviors into clear test cases and automated validation.
  • Build regression suites covering scenario execution, runtime services, APIs, asset workflows, rendering outputs, sensors, and platform integrations.
  • Integrate automated simulation tests into CI/CD pipelines, build gates, packaging, artifact, and release workflows.
  • Develop test data, fixtures, mocks, stubs, environment configurations, and repeatable test environments.
  • Implement metrics, KPIs, pass/fail criteria, dashboards, reports, traceability, and automated evidence collection.
  • Support deterministic replay, results comparison, baseline management, defect reproduction, and root-cause analysis.
  • Perform system integration and exploratory testing across cloud, on-premises, GPU, SIL, and HIL environments.
  • Partner with software, scenario, rendering, digital twin, robotics, controls, and platform engineers to identify risks and improve testability.
  • Document test plans, procedures, results, defects, coverage, known limitations, and release recommendations.
  • Contribute to quality standards, code reviews, test reviews, and continuous improvement under the direction of the QA Lead.

Qualifications

  • Software development or test automation experience using Python, C++, C#, Java, or a comparable language.
  • Experience with automated testing, unit testing, integration testing, regression testing, CI/CD, and defect tracking.
  • Knowledge of verification and validation, requirements traceability, test design, metrics, and release-quality practices.
  • Exposure to SIL, HIL, simulation systems, robotics, digital twins, real-time software, or embedded integration is preferred.
  • Experience with Linux, Git, scripting, containers, logs, debugging, and test reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of APIs, distributed systems, cloud environments, performance testing, or observability is a plus.
  • Exposure to NVIDIA Omniverse, Isaac Sim, Unreal Engine, ROS2, Gazebo, AirSim, CARLA, or comparable simulation tools is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, teamwork, and documentation skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Typically 2+ years of software engineering, quality engineering, or test automation experience; relevant academic, research, internship, or project experience may be considered.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
