The posting

Checkpoint Systems is seeking an experienced Strategic Business Development professional to drive new business growth across RFID labels, systems, and applications.

This is a quota-carrying, hunter-focused role responsible for identifying, developing, and commercializing new RFID opportunities from initial concept through pilot, production, and scaled deployment.

The position will focus on two primary areas of growth:

Retail RFID Programs

Develop business with retailers and their supplier communities that are actively deploying or expanding RFID programs. This includes direct engagement with retailers to understand program strategy, technical requirements, implementation plans, and supplier adoption needs, while converting those requirements into commercial opportunities for Checkpoint.

Emerging RFID Applications

Identify and develop RFID opportunities outside traditional retail programs, including manufacturing, packaging, supply chain, logistics, healthcare, industrial, asset tracking, and other emerging RFID use cases.

The successful candidate must understand both the commercial and technical sides of RFID and be capable of helping customers move from an RFID concept to a scalable production deployment.

The successful candidate will consistently identify new RFID applications, create customer engagement, develop technically viable solutions, convert pilots into commercial programs, and scale those programs into meaningful recurring revenue.

Job Duties:

  • Identify and penetrate net-new customers, applications, and markets for RFID labels and solutions.
  • Build relationships directly with retailers that are implementing or expanding RFID programs.
  • Develop opportunities within retailer supplier communities and help customers meet RFID program requirements.
  • Identify RFID applications outside traditional retail and develop those opportunities into scalable commercial programs.
  • Manage opportunities from concept → pilot → commercialization → scaled deployment.
  • Understand customer workflows and translate business challenges into RFID-enabled solutions.
  • Develop business cases demonstrating operational impact, ROI, inventory visibility, automation, compliance, or supply-chain improvements.
  • Work with customers to define pilot objectives, success criteria, deployment requirements, and commercialization plans.
  • Collaborate internally with engineering, RFID technical teams, software, hardware, operations, manufacturing, integration resources, and executive leadership.
  • Build and manage a strong pipeline of strategic opportunities with typical sales cycles of approximately 12–18 months.
  • Maintain executive-level customer relationships throughout long-term RFID development programs.

RFID Systems & Applicable Knowledge - The candidate must understand how complete RFID systems operate and how they are deployed at scale. This includes working knowledge of:

  • RFID tags, labels, and inlays
  • RFID chip and antenna technologies
  • Encoding and serialization
  • RFID printers and applicators
  • Fixed readers and handheld readers
  • Antennas and read-zone design
  • RFID portals and fixed infrastructure
  • Middleware and RFID software
  • Data capture and event management
  • Enterprise system integration
  • Pilot design and validation
  • Multi-site and enterprise-scale deployment
  • The individual does not need to be the primary systems engineer but must be technically capable of leading customer discussions, understanding system architecture, identifying implementation requirements, and coordinating technical resources.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a business related field
  • Formal Sales training is a plus

Experience:

  • Approximately 5–10 years of RFID, automatic identification, smart packaging, IoT, enterprise technology, or related business development experience.
  • Experience working with retailers, manufacturers, suppliers, logistics organizations, or other enterprise customers.
  • Demonstrated success developing net-new business and opening new accounts
  • Experience taking technology solutions from pilot or proof-of-concept into commercial deployment.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of RFID technology and its operational applications.
  • Strong consultative and solution-selling capabilities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and executive audiences.
  • Strong financial and business-case development skills.
  • Comfortable operating in an entrepreneurial environment where applications and markets may still be developing.
  • Ability to coordinate cross-functional technical, operational, manufacturing, and commercial teams.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
