The posting

CEL is an Irish-based manufacturer, distributor, and exporter of electrical switchgear, controls, and related products and services, with a 40-year track record, focused on supplying the global data centre industry.

Operating from Ireland and in support of our 400,000 sq ft of manufacturing capacity in Williamsburg, Virginia, we aim to double in size each year for the next three years.

CEL is led by a hard-working team who value collaboration, continuous improvement, excellence in quality, and commercial curiosity. As we continue to grow across Ireland and North America, clear, accurate, and consistent technical documentation is critical to supporting our engineering, manufacturing, and project delivery teams.

Through this role, you will help ensure CEL continues to build on our reputation for manufacturing high-quality switchgear by developing technical documentation that supports product quality, compliance, usability, and consistency across our global operations.

About the Role

As part of our continued growth, CEL Critical Power is looking for a detail-driven, technically proficient Technical Writer with a passion for creating clear, concise, and engaging technical content. You will develop and maintain technical manuals, installation guides, operation and maintenance documentation, product specifications, and other technical content supporting our Engineering, Manufacturing, and Project Management teams.

This is a highly collaborative role, working closely with engineers, project managers, commercial teams, Document Control, Product Management, and global vendors and partners. You will translate complex technical information into clear, accurate, and accessible documentation, ensuring content remains current and reflects product updates, design changes, regulatory requirements, and best practices.

The Technical Writer will play a key role in enhancing product usability, maintaining compliance, and establishing consistent technical documentation standards across CEL's global operations.

With CEL's continued expansion into North America, this role will also involve collaborating with colleagues across CEL's US manufacturing operations, making familiarity with UL standards, NEC codes, and international electrical industry regulations an advantage.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Technical Documentation & Content Development

  • Create, edit, and maintain technical manuals, installation guides, operation and maintenance (O&M) documentation, and product specifications for CEL's POD and switchgear solutions.
  • Develop clear, user-friendly content that translates complex technical concepts into accessible, structured documentation.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with relevant industry regulations, safety standards, including IEC, UL and NEC, and customer requirements.
  • Work with subject matter experts (SMEs), engineers, and project managers to capture the latest product details, best practices, and process improvements.
  • Collaborate with CEL's US manufacturing team, international vendors, global partners, and colleagues across North American operations to support international compliance and operational consistency.

Process Standardisation & Quality Control

  • Partner with Document Control and Product Management to develop and maintain best practices in documentation management.
  • Maintain effective revision control, ensuring documentation reflects product updates, design modifications, and regulatory changes.
  • Develop and improve templates, glossaries, and formatting guidelines to ensure technical documentation meets CEL's quality and branding standards.
  • Support the automation and digitalisation of technical documentation, including the use of AI-powered tools and document management systems where appropriate.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing

  • Work closely with engineers, project managers, procurement specialists, Document Control, Product Management, and other global teams to gather and validate technical information.
  • Create customer training materials, FAQs, and troubleshooting guides that support the effective use of CEL's power solutions.
  • Participate in technical training sessions and product demonstrations to build in-depth product knowledge and incorporate relevant insights into documentation.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, Communications, or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years' experience in technical writing, documentation management, or engineering content development.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, switchgear, PODs, power distribution, or industrial automation.
  • Proven ability to write, structure, and edit technical documentation, translating complex technical information into clear, user-friendly content.
  • Experience working within manufacturing, engineering, power distribution, or a related technical environment.
  • Proficiency with document management systems, version control tools, and digital content creation platforms.
  • Ability to streamline and standardise documentation processes to improve efficiency, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation across multiple projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail, with a strong focus on accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment and managing multiple priorities simultaneously

Desirable

  • Familiarity with technical standards, safety regulations, and industry best practices, particularly IEC, UL, and NEC requirements.
  • Experience with technical illustrations, schematics, and product diagrams.
  • Experience creating customer training materials, user guides, FAQs, troubleshooting guides, and operational documentation.
  • Experience collaborating with international teams, vendors, or manufacturing operations.
  • Experience supporting the automation or digitalisation of technical documentation processes.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
