Job Description

Position Summary:

Develops and supports reporting solutions integral to the administration of Colorado State University's $600M+ research enterprise, working within the OVPR reporting and analytics area. Core functions include data modeling, interactive report and dashboard development, application support, and faculty and staff training and support. The position supports multiple reports, dashboards, and applications used by college and department business officers, research administrators, and faculty, and contributes the underlying data models and datasets that support research performance reporting and analysis for the university. These applications and reports are critical to the administrative, business process, and communications needs of the research mission.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Develop custom data reports and dashboards using various reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, BIRT, Sisense) or direct SQL, so that college and department business officers, research administrators, and faculty have accurate and timely research data.
  • Develop and maintain data flows, data models, and datasets in Power BI using DAX and Power Query, establishing reusable structures that support recurring reporting and analysis needs across the reporting and analytics area.
  • Develop and maintain custom ETL processes, including current in-house developed solutions and common tools (e.g., Pentaho, Boomi), integrating data from databases, cloud services, and web APIs across multiple SaaS vendors.
  • Support ETL processes for the central University data warehouse and verify reporting accuracy, so that research data is consistent across university systems and reporting products.
  • Prepare and provide University data to Federal agencies, sponsors, and other internal and external stakeholders in response to recurring and ad hoc reporting requirements.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for University research data contained in multiple databases, working directly with database administrators to construct scripts, tables, database views, and schemas for research data needs.
  • Monitor incoming report requests and assist with prioritizing and communicating request status to stakeholders, so that reporting work is transparent and directed to the highest-value needs.
  • Document technical solutions and reporting tool procedures for non-technical stakeholders, and train faculty and staff on new and current reporting products.
  • Interact with administrative, academic, and operational stakeholders to gather requirements, troubleshoot issues, and identify strategic improvements to reporting products.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Pre-employment criminal background check required for all new hires.
  • Occasional travel to conferences, seminars, and professional association meetings.
  • Applicant must be authorization to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Accounting, or a related field; or high school graduation/GED and equivalent demonstrated IT or accounting experience.
  • Experience developing data flows, data models, reports, and dashboards using Power BI or a similar data modeling/reporting tool.
  • Proficiency in using SQL for querying databases or data sources.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience with Power BI, including designing data flows and data models, creating datasets, and building interactive dashboards and reports.
  • Proficiency using DAX and Power Query for data manipulation, extraction, and transformation within Power BI.
  • Experience with Kuali Research and/or Kuali Finance software.
  • Previous experience with ETL tools and process development incorporating diverse data sources such as databases, cloud services, and APIs.
  • Proficiency using Oracle, MySQL, or another relational database management system (RDBMS).
  • Familiarity with standard accounting practices.
  • Continuous learning mindset and willingness to stay up to date with evolving technology and best practices in data reporting, analytics, and platform architecture.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
