The posting

Cerula Care is the first digital health company focused on providing integrated behavioral health (BH) services to people living with cancer. Cerula Care is the only collaborative care company co-founded by a psycho-oncologist — and our impact is backed by peer-reviewed evidence, including publications in Clinical Cancer Research and ASCO.

More than 22M people living with cancer have behavioral health needs such as anxiety, depression, and distress. We integrate with oncology practices and health systems through the Collaborative Care Model (CoCM) to wrap our members with a behavioral health team, care programming, and outcomes analysis.

The Collaborative Care Model is an evidence-based clinical model that has been shown to successfully improve mild to moderate behavioral health needs more effectively than the current standard of care. With program customized to our members, we will be able to improve our members’ behavioral health above and beyond traditional CoCM models.

Why Choose Cerula Care

We understand choosing a place to work or consult is a really important decision, and we want you to know that we do not take it lightly on your behalf – we welcome all your questions as you go through the decision process! Here is what you should know about our core values as you consider applying.

  • Tenacity. Building a company that transforms behavioral health care is not for the faint of heart — the problems are entrenched, the system is complex, and the stakes for our patients are real. We meet these challenges with grit and persistence, pushing through obstacles that would stop others. We treat setbacks as signals to adapt and try again, not reasons to give up, because the people who depend on us can't afford for us to.
  • Outcomes Focused. We are here to change lives, not to stay busy. Every project, meeting, and decision is measured against whether it meaningfully improves outcomes — for our patients, our partners, and our business. This means saying no to things that don't move the needle and holding ourselves accountable to the metrics that matter.
  • Empathy. We genuinely care about our patients' experiences, needs, and perspectives, placing them at the center of everything we do. By actively listening and seeking to understand the healthcare journey through their eyes, we create solutions that truly address their challenges. This compassionate approach extends to how we treat each other as colleagues — supporting one another enables us to better serve those who depend on our care.
  • Transparency. We believe good decisions are made in the open. We share context generously, communicate honestly about what's working and what isn't, and explain the reasoning behind our choices — to our teammates, our partners, and our patients. This means admitting when we're uncertain, owning our mistakes, and giving one another the full picture needed to do great work.
  • Collaboration. The best work we do is never done alone. We lift each other up, share what we know, and show up for our teammates when things get hard — because a company is only as strong as the people supporting one another inside it. When a colleague is stuck, struggling, or stretched thin, we step in, because this mutual support is what allows us to serve our patients with the care and consistency they deserve.

The Lead BHCM Role

The Lead Behavioral Health Care Manager is a licensed clinician and the clinical lead for our Behavioral Health Care Manager (BHCM) team. This is not a standard BHCM position. You will conduct and diagnose intakes, carry a small caseload, serve as clinical backup for acute safety and crisis needs across our partner practices, and supervise and develop a team of BHCMs.

You will work closely with our Consulting Psychiatrists, clinical leadership, and the broader care team, and you will help shape how our collaborative care team grows.

Who You Are

  • An experienced clinician and natural leader who coaches well, gives direct and supportive feedback, and holds a high standard of care.
  • Calm, decisive, and sound in judgment during acute situations, with strong risk assessment and safety planning skills.
  • Passionate about supporting people affected by cancer and chronic illness, and skilled at building rapport and therapeutic relationships through telehealth.
  • Highly organized, accountable, and data-minded, comfortable using KPIs and documentation audits to drive quality.
  • Adaptable and energized by a startup environment, combining empathy with accountability.

What You'll Do

Intakes, Diagnosis, and Direct Care

  • Conduct initial biopsychosocial intakes, including safety screening, standardized assessments (such as the PHQ-9 and GAD-7), diagnosis, and timely documentation.
  • Provide diagnostic support for intakes completed by other members of the care team as needed.
  • Carry a small caseload of patients, delivering brief, evidence-based interventions within a measurement-based care model.

Clinical Backup and Crisis Response

  • Serve as clinical backup for the care team, responding to acute patient-safety and crisis needs across our partner practices during coverage hours.
  • Conduct risk assessments and safety planning, and coordinate escalation with the Consulting Psychiatrist, the referring oncology team, and emergency resources as needed.
  • Oversee referrals to clinically indicated services outside Cerula, including higher levels of care.

Team Leadership and Supervision

  • Supervise a team of BHCMs, providing clinical guidance, case consultation, and day-to-day support.
  • Train new and existing BHCMs on Cerula's protocols, assessments, and evidence-based interventions.
  • Review sessions and audit clinical documentation for quality, accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Track team KPIs, such as documentation timeliness and patient outcomes, and use the data to identify trends and drive improvement.
  • Take part in performance evaluations and, when needed, development and performance improvement plans, in partnership with clinical leadership.

Interdisciplinary Care

  • Participate in weekly interdisciplinary team (IDT) meetings with Consulting Psychiatrists and the care team, including for new partner practices as we grow.
  • Partner with clinical leadership to refine workflows, protocols, and care standards.

What You Need to Apply

Required

  • Master's degree in social work, counseling, clinical mental health counseling, psychology, or a closely related field.
  • Active, unrestricted independent clinical license as an LCSW, LICSW, LPC, or LMHC-D.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish sufficient to conduct clinical assessments, diagnosis, crisis intervention, and document in both languages.
  • 5+ years of clinical experience in behavioral health care management or direct clinical care, including work with people with cancer, serious illness, or chronic medical conditions.
  • 3+ year of experience supervising or leading clinicians (for example, clinical supervision or a team lead role).
  • Experience conducting behavioral health intakes, psychosocial assessments, and DSM-5-TR diagnosis.
  • Experience with suicide risk assessment, safety planning, and crisis response.
  • Experience with evidence-based approaches such as Motivational Interviewing, CBT, behavioral activation, and psychoeducation.
  • Experience in oncology, integrated or collaborative care (CoCM), primary care, or telehealth.
  • Experience leading a remote or multi-state team.
  • Experience with measurement-based care and using data to manage clinical quality.

Location Requirements

This role is fully remote and serves patients nationwide.

Time Commitment, Start Date, and Compensation

  • Time commitment: Full time, working Mountain Time business hours. The role provides crisis support coverage through 7 p.m. Eastern (5 p.m. Mountain).
  • Start date: As soon as possible.
  • Salary: $90,000–$95,000.

Benefits

  • Generous paid time off, including national holidays and the week between Christmas and New Year's.
  • Employer-covered health insurance options.
  • Dental and vision insurance.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Flexible spending and dependent care spending options.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
