Role Overview

The Solution Engineer, Japan is Chaos’s pre-sales technical expert for the Japanese market, responsible for the technical part of the sales cycle from discovery through demo, proof of concept (PoC) and technical win. The role works closely with the Japan sales team, channel partners, and global Sales, Customer Success, Product and Marketing teams.

The role is central to two regional priorities: driving adoption of Chaos’s AI and cloud offerings at enterprise accounts, and supporting our channel-led business with Japan’s leading architecture firms, general contractors and house builders. It requires hands-on expertise across the Chaos portfolio and host applications, native-level Japanese and fluent English, and the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to audiences ranging from designers and visualisers to IT, security and executive stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise throughout the sales cycle for Japan (discovery, workflow analysis, solution design, demonstration, PoC and technical win), in partnership with the account managers and channel managers who own the customer relationship.
  • Enable Japanese channel partners and resellers technically through partner training, joint customer demos and second-line technical support on escalations.
  • Deliver webinars, seminars, Instructor-Led Training and Virtual Instructor-Led Training in Japanese for customers, partners and the education community.
  • Act as the bridge between Japanese customers and global teams, translating customer feedback, feature requests and escalations into clear, actionable input for Product and Engineering.
  • Stay current on Japanese AEC market trends (BIM adoption, AI in design, competitive developments, ISV partner activity) and share insights with the sales team to identify new opportunities.
  • Provide technical support to Japanese accounts where needed (installation, licensing, troubleshooting), in coordination with and backed by the central HQ support team.

Required Experience

  • 3+ years in pre-sales, solution engineering or technical consulting for design, visualisation or AEC software, ideally in the Japanese market.
  • Hands-on expertise in real-time and offline rendering, ideally with Chaos products (Enscape, Veras, V-ray, Corona).
  • Proficiency in host applications widely used in Japanese AEC such as Revit, SketchUp, 3ds Max and other CAD, BIM, DCC and other Visualization software is a strong plus.
  • Experience running PoCs or technical evaluations with enterprise customers and delivering product demonstrations, webinars or training sessions in Japanese to technical and non-technical audiences.

Required Skills

  • Native-level Japanese and proficient English, written and verbal, for daily work with customers and global teams.
  • Communicates complex technical concepts clearly and compellingly: able to structure and present information effectively for diverse audiences, from end users to senior stakeholders.
  • Delivers product demonstrations and training with confidence, adapting content and approach to the specific needs of each customer or partner.
  • Builds long-term trust with Japanese enterprise customers through thorough, consensus-driven evaluation cycles involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Works collaboratively across Sales, partners and global Product, Marketing and Customer Success teams: responsive to internal needs and accurate in representing customer feedback.
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational discipline: manages multiple engagements and materials with precision.
  • Working knowledge of subscription licensing, activation, firewall and proxy/PAC configuration, and cloud/AI security requirements, and familiarity with tools such as Salesforce, Power BI, Jira, Zendesk and Zuora, is an advantage.

How Success Is Measured

  • Number of successful PoCs and enterprise evaluations completed, and their conversion into commercial opportunities.
  • Technical wins and new and expansion ARR influenced in Japan.
  • Chaos Cloud and AI adoption at key enterprise accounts.
  • Partner enablement: number of trained partners and partner-led opportunities supported.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
