About the Role

Chazin is seeking an experienced Associate Manager, Technical Reviews & Training – CPA, to serve as our internal subject matter expert on U.S. GAAP and lead technical accounting training across the organization. This role plays a key part in maintaining quality and compliance standards while building the technical knowledge of our Accounting Services team. This is an excellent opportunity for a CPA with strong nonprofit and public accounting experience who enjoys staying current on emerging standards and strengthening technical knowledge across an organization.

Core Responsibilities

Monthly close and audit readiness reviews

  • Review assigned monthly close workpapers, reconciliations, and financial statements for accuracy, completeness, U.S. GAAP, and firm procedures. Complete reviews within agreed timelines.
  • Evaluate support for significant balances, estimates, unusual transactions, and accounting conclusions. Identify inconsistencies, missing documentation, and departures from firm standards.
  • Document clear, actionable review comments; explain the accounting rationale, follow up with preparers, and verify that corrections and supporting documentation resolve findings before clearing assigned reviews.
  • Review year-end schedules and supporting workpapers for external audits.
  • Help engagement teams resolve accounting questions and improve audit readiness.
  • Track assigned review status and recurring issues. Report results and capacity concerns to the Manager; escalate significant errors, unresolved judgments, and delivery risks promptly.

Technical research and nonprofit accounting

  • Serve as a technical resource for nonprofit accounting matters, including contributions and grants, donor restrictions and releases, net assets, functional expenses, endowments, revenue recognition, and leases.
  • Research assigned questions using authoritative guidance; prepare concise memoranda documenting facts, analysis, proposed conclusions, and implementation considerations for Manager review.
  • Monitor accounting developments and contribute to updates to policies, close checklists, templates, and training materials.

Training development and delivery

  • Develop and present internal training and approved client-facing education using clear learning objectives, relevant nonprofit examples, practical exercises, and assessments.
  • Convert recurring review findings into targeted coaching, job aids, case studies, and refresher training. Support role-based learning and onboarding of new team members.
  • Develop reusable curriculum and instructor materials; maintain assigned courses and resources in the firm’s content library or learning platform.
  • For programs offered for CPE, prepare content and maintain assigned documentation in accordance with applicable AICPA/NASBA standards and firm sponsor procedures. Support attendance verification, evaluations, certificates, and records with the designated administrator.

Coaching and coordination

  • Coach accountants and assigned reviewers on technical judgment, documentation, self-review, and effective resolution of review comments. Provide constructive feedback that strengthens independent problem-solving.
  • Coordinate assigned review work and training projects; communicate priorities, deadlines, and dependencies, and support other reviewers during peak periods.
  • Recommend improvements to review practices and learning resources. Provide performance input on assigned team members; formal personnel decisions remain with the Manager unless specifically delegated.

Content and technology support

  • Contribute technically accurate webinar materials, articles, and client resources under the Manager’s direction; route external content through the firm’s approval process.
  • Maintain version control and update assigned technical resources when accounting guidance or firm procedures change.
  • Use approved accounting, workflow, analytics, and AI tools to improve review and training efficiency. Validate outputs, confirm authoritative sources, document conclusions, and protect client information.
  • Participate in process improvements and other related projects as assigned, communicating progress and results.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • CPA license required.
  • Extensive knowledge of GAAP
  • A minimum of three years of nonprofit accounting experience
  • A minimum of five years of general ledger accounting experience
  • A minimum of three years of public accounting experience preferred
  • Experience in audit preparation and management
  • Ability to thrive in a virtual team-oriented environment

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
