This hybrid position reports to the Director – Environment and Remediation and is based in Wilmington, Delaware (other Chemours' US manufacturing locations may be considered)

The Environmental Engineer – Water and Wastewater SME serves as Chemours’ corporate technical resource for water‑related environmental regulations, permitting, and treatment technologies. This role provides strategic regulatory interpretation, technical expertise, and governance to manufacturing sites, capital projects, and business teams globally. Through this work, the role enables consistent regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and top‑quartile environmental performance across the enterprise.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Regulatory Expertise and Compliance Leadership Provide corporate‑level expertise and guidance to businesses, manufacturing sites, and functions on water and wastewater regulatory compliance, including drinking water, surface water, groundwater, and wastewater permitting requirements. Serve as a primary resource for interpretation and application of U.S. federal and state programs, including the Clean Water Act (CWA), Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), NPDES permitting, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sections 401 and 404, SPCC, CERCLA hazardous substances reporting, and aboveground storage tank regulations. Manage, oversee and review contractor deliverables related to water quality modeling, instream biological assessments, and permitting activities.
  • Site, Business, and Capital Project Support Provide timely and effective support to manufacturing sites regarding regulatory applicability, permitting, compliance strategy, and water‑related technical issues. Support capital projects and new product development by providing permitting strategy, regulatory applicability determinations, and technical guidance on water and wastewater treatment technologies. Identify, scope, and oversee external consultants and vendors supporting environmental compliance and risk management.
  • Audits, Standards, and Governance Lead and perform second‑party environmental audits (globally), with a focus on water and wastewater compliance. Own and maintain Chemours water‑related environmental standards, periodically reviewing and proposing updates to drive superior performance. Lead or support enterprise environmental monitoring and continuous‑improvement initiatives, including analysis of leading and lagging performance indicators such as deviations and audit results.
  • Advocacy and External Engagement Support regulatory advocacy efforts by engaging with regulatory agencies at the site, business, and corporate levels. Represent Chemours on American Chemistry Council (ACC) committees and other relevant industry or trade organizations. Review, prepare, and coordinate company comments on proposed environmental regulations. Conduct impact assessments of emerging or proposed regulations on manufacturing and business operations and recommend compliance and advocacy strategies.
  • Training, Knowledge Sharing, and Leadership Anticipate regulatory trends and proactively communicate implications to business units and manufacturing sites. Develop and deliver training related to regulatory changes, best practices, and lessons learned. Promote enterprise‑wide knowledge sharing through internal training sessions, webinars, and communities of practice. Participate in or lead cross‑functional technical and systems teams supporting Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.

  • 10+ years of relevant professional experience, preferably within chemical or industrial manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated expertise in U.S. water and wastewater regulations, permitting, and compliance.
  • Strong technical capability in water discharge modeling and water and wastewater treatment technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence across sites and functions without direct authority.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and passport, with the ability to travel as needed.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
