POSITION OVERVIEW
The Staff Engineer – Control Systems provides advanced technical expertise and engineering oversight for control, automation, and safeguarding systems on large-scale LNG EPC projects. This role acts as an owner’s technical authority, ensuring that DCS, SIS, PLC, and related automation systems are designed, implemented, tested, and commissioned in accordance with project requirements, company standards, and regulatory obligations. The position works closely with EPC contractors, vendors, project teams, and future operations to ensure safe, reliable, and operable control systems throughout the project lifecycle.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
• Serve as technical authority for control systems including DCS, SIS, PLCs, SCADA, analyzers, and field instrumentation interfaces
• Review and approve EPC contractor control system designs, specifications, philosophies, and data sheets
• Ensure compliance with company standards, IEC/ISA codes, and applicable regulatory requirements
• Verify control system architecture supports reliability, redundancy, and maintainability requirements
• Provide technical oversight for SIS design in accordance with IEC 61511/61508
• Review Safety Requirement Specifications (SRS), cause & effect diagrams, and logic narratives
• Support SIL studies, LOPA, and functional safety assessments
• Ensure proper segregation and independence between BPCS and SIS
• Interface directly with EPC contractors to resolve technical issues and deviations
• Review and disposition technical queries, deviations, and change requests
• Participate in design reviews (HAZOP, HAZID, SIL, cybersecurity)
• Support resolution of control-system-related construction, commissioning, and start-up issues
• Review and approve FAT, SAT, and integrated testing procedures
• Witness critical testing activities as required
• Support commissioning, start-up, and performance testing
• Troubleshoot complex automation and control issues during execution and start-up
• Ensure compliance with company and regulatory industrial cybersecurity requirements
• Review network architecture, access control, and patch management strategies
• Support long-term lifecycle, obsolescence, and maintainability planning
• Ensure control system documentation is complete, accurate, and suitable for operations
• Support development of operating, maintenance, and troubleshooting documentation
• Assist in turnover and handover to operations and maintenance teams

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• Strong experience with major DCS platforms (e.g., Emerson, Honeywell, Yokogawa, Siemens) • Demonstrated experience with SIS design and functional safety standards • Experience working with EPC contractors on large, complex projects
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education, Training and Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or related discipline
Experience:
10+ years of experience in control systems engineering, preferably in LNG, gas processing, or large-scale energy projects

WORK CONDITIONS
- Job is performed in an industrial plant environment.
- Occasionally, work may be performed from home, after normal work hours or on weekends.
- Limited travel required, as business conditions dictate.
- Subject to drug and alcohol testing, per applicable federal regulations or as required by Cheniere.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, work at height above ground on stairs and catwalks, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear, smell, type and write.
- Must be able to board a ship via a gangway, climb to the top of a tank (200+ steps), scale vertical steel ladder up to forty feet or more in height and lift and move objects weighting up to 30 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work indoors and outdoors, and be exposed to year-around weather conditions, ocean environment, and noise. There is a considerable amount of outdoor activities involved.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Required to obtain mandated certification by attending Company-sponsored training in basic first aid, CPR, and LNG firefighting.
