Position Summary
The Maintenance Specialist is responsible for performing advanced mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and precision-maintenance activities throughout the Eddyville Chlor Alkali facility. This position supports the safe and reliable operation of critical plant equipment by diagnosing mechanical failures, executing high-quality repairs, and applying advanced mechanical-maintenance practices.
The Maintenance Specialist partners closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and other technical personnel to resolve equipment issues, improve equipment reliability, support less-experienced mechanics, and minimize plant downtime. This posting is based on the advanced Maintenance Mechanic II scope in the PDR.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced planned and corrective mechanical maintenance on critical plant equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot pumps, compressors, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, conveyors, valves, and related mechanical equipment.
- Perform advanced mechanical inspections, dimensional checks, equipment rebuilds, and bearing and seal installation.
- Execute precision-maintenance activities including laser shaft alignment and soft-foot correction.
- Support condition-monitoring activities and investigate abnormal equipment conditions.
- Plan field execution for assigned work and identify required tooling, materials, rigging, and equipment before work begins.
- Provide technical support and mentorship to less-experienced maintenance mechanics.
- Apply lockout/tagout, line-breaking, confined-space, fall-protection, respiratory-protection, rigging, and approved lift-plan requirements.
- Document equipment clearances, failure evidence, parts used, testing results, and as-found/as-left conditions.
- Identify recurring equipment failures and communicate findings requiring deeper reliability or engineering review.
- Escalate scope, material, equipment, and drawing discrepancies requiring Engineering or change-control review.
- Verify guards, lubrication, alignment, fasteners, equipment condition, and housekeeping before equipment is released for return to service.
- Maintain accurate work-order and equipment-history information within company systems.
- Support outages, equipment startups, commissioning activities, and reliability-improvement initiatives.
- Perform other advanced mechanical maintenance and reliability duties as assigned.
