Job Summary We’re looking for an Associate CNC Programming & Machining Engineer to develop and optimize CNC programs and machining processes for complex, precision-manufactured components. In this role, you’ll translate engineering designs into efficient shop-floor processes by creating CAM programs, refining G-code, selecting tooling and supporting first-article setups. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent engineering graduate or early-career professional interested in building advanced CNC programming and manufacturing expertise.
Work That Matters At Chromalloy, your work directly supports aviation safety and reliability. Our teams repair and manufacture critical aerospace components used across the global aviation industry. Whether you're improving processes, supporting operations, solving technical challenges, or driving business performance, your contributions help keep aircraft flying safely around the world.
Location: San Antonio, TX Schedule: On-site
What You’ll Be Doing
Develop, simulate and verify multi-axis CNC toolpaths using Siemens NX, Mastercam or comparable CAD/CAM software. Write, edit and optimize G-code and M-code to improve machining efficiency, accuracy and repeatability. Establish cutting parameters, including speeds, feeds and toolpath strategies, based on part geometry, materials and machining requirements. Select appropriate cutting tools, workholding methods and machining approaches for complex components. Develop CNC fixture concepts that support safe, stable and repeatable machining processes. Partner with CNC machinists and operators to prove out new programs and support first-article setups. Troubleshoot programming, setup, tolerance and machining issues directly on the shop floor. Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T requirements and material specifications to ensure programs meet technical requirements. Investigate machining errors and revise programs or processes to reduce scrap and rework. Identify opportunities to improve cycle times, tool life, process capability and overall machining performance. Document CNC programs, setup requirements and process changes to support consistent execution.
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or a related technical field, or an equivalent combination of hands-on precision machining and CNC programming experience. Foundational knowledge of CNC machining principles, CAM programming and toolpath development. Working knowledge of Siemens NX CAM, Mastercam or a comparable platform such as SolidWorks CAM or Fusion 360. Basic ability to write, edit and troubleshoot G-code and M-code. Understanding of cutting tools, machining parameters, tool geometry and workholding principles. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, engineering tolerances and GD&T requirements. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate technical issues and develop practical solutions. Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, machinists and shop-floor operators. Technical curiosity and a willingness to learn new machining methods, software and manufacturing processes.
Nice to Have
Internship, co-op or hands-on experience in a CNC machining or precision manufacturing environment. Experience developing multi-axis CNC programs. Familiarity with Siemens NX CAM or Mastercam. Exposure to CNC program simulation, verification or post-processing. Experience supporting first-article setups, fixture development or machining process improvements. Familiarity with aerospace components, close-tolerance manufacturing or regulated production environments.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, fumes, dust, and varying temperatures. Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and moving throughout production areas. Ability to perform hands-on troubleshooting and equipment inspections in an active manufacturing environment. Ability to occasionally lift up to 35 pounds. Ability to work around CNC machines and industrial systems while following established safety procedures. Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to all safety requirements.
