Job Summary We're looking for a Tool Maker to analyze specifications and set up and operate conventional, special-purpose, and numerical-control machines. This role fabricates and repairs metalworking injection tools, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools. Shift: 1st shift, Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. What You'll Be Doing Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, and sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on materials or workpieces for subsequent machining. Select, align, and secure fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, shapers, and similar equipment. Calculate and set machining controls for speed, feed, coolant flow, depth, and angle of cut, or enter commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine-control media. Start and observe machine operations, identify malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust controls or control media as needed. Verify finished workpieces meet specifications and perform trial runs to confirm machine settings or programmed control data. Fit and assemble parts, then verify assembly dimensions and alignment. Install machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines, and equipment; test units to confirm functionality and performance. Develop specifications from general descriptions and create sketches of parts or products to be fabricated. Collaborate with engineers, production personnel, programmers, and others to resolve machining or assembly issues. Use a hand truck and/or operate a forklift as needed to transfer hazardous materials within the Chromalloy facility. What We're Looking For High school diploma or equivalent. One to two years of related experience and/or training. Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; and communicate effectively with groups of customers or employees. Ability to calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume and apply basic algebra and geometry. Ability to apply common-sense understanding to written, oral, or diagram instructions and solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Training in loading, labeling, transferring, and moving hazardous materials in accordance with RCRA regulations. Work Environment & Physical Requirements Regularly stand, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally walk; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. Regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts. Occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise level is usually moderate.
