What You’ll Be Doing Inspection Strategy & Advanced Metrology
Develop and drive a global roadmap for inspection digitization, automation, and standardization across manufacturing and repair operations. Serve as a technical authority for dimensional inspection of turbine blades, vanes, shrouds, combustor hardware, and other complex aerospace components, with particular emphasis on airfoil and hot-section geometries. Define inspection strategies for original manufacturing and repair applications, including GD&T interpretation, datum structures, measurement planning, tolerance analysis, and drawing requirements. Evaluate and deploy fit-for-purpose metrology technologies, including conventional inspection, CMM, portable metrology, structured-light scanning, optical metrology, X-ray, and industrial CT. Lead the development, qualification, validation, and transfer of inspection methods supporting new product introduction, repair development, and advanced manufacturing. Drive improvements in measurement accuracy, repeatability, reproducibility, capability, and cycle time, and support complex dimensional investigations and inspection-related nonconformances.
Inspection Automation & Digital Integration
Partner with Automation Engineering to develop robotic and integrated inspection solutions and define metrology, sensing, data, and system requirements for automated manufacturing cells. Integrate scanners, sensors, machine vision, CMMs, X-ray/CT systems, and inspection software into automated inspection workflows. Develop and advance software-based automation, data processing, inspection reporting, and workflows that reduce manual intervention and improve consistency. Advance model-based definition, CAD-based inspection, digital thread, automated reporting, and closed-loop manufacturing concepts that connect inspection results with process control and manufacturing decisions.
Global Technical Leadership
Establish standardized inspection methodologies and technical practices that can be deployed and sustained across manufacturing and repair sites. Evaluate inspection equipment, software, and emerging technologies and develop technical and financial business cases for investment. Lead across Engineering, Quality, Operations, Repair Development, Automation, and Digital Technology to implement and sustain modern inspection approaches. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, inspectors, CMM programmers, metrology specialists, and site quality personnel. Communicate technical recommendations, implementation risks, expected benefits, and investment rationale to technical, operational, site, and executive stakeholders.
What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, Metrology, or a related technical discipline. 10+ years of progressive experience in aerospace inspection, metrology, manufacturing engineering, repair engineering, or quality engineering. Significant experience supporting gas turbine component manufacturing and repair, including dimensional inspection of airfoils and hot-section hardware. Expert-level knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T, datum development, tolerance analysis, measurement uncertainty, MSA, GR&R, and inspection method validation. Broad technical experience across manual and conventional inspection, CMM, portable metrology, structured-light scanning, optical metrology, X-ray, and industrial CT. Demonstrated ability to develop inspection plans and select appropriate measurement technologies based on accuracy, access, throughput, cost, and technical risk. Experience leading inspection modernization, digitization, automation, or enterprise standardization initiatives. Experience developing, qualifying, validating, and transferring inspection methods within complex manufacturing or repair environments. Working knowledge of model-based definition, digital thread concepts, automated FAIR generation, SPC, and inspection data analytics. Advanced proficiency with several relevant metrology and digital platforms, such as Siemens NX, Teamcenter, ZEISS INSPECT/GOM Inspect, ATOS Professional, PolyWorks Inspector, Geomagic Control X/Design X, PC-DMIS, ZEISS CALYPSO, MODUS, or Verisurf. Experience with industrial X-ray/CT reconstruction, analysis, or dimensional inspection software. Experience using Python, SQL, VBA, APIs, scripting, or comparable tools to automate inspection workflows, reporting, or data processing. Experience with Power BI or comparable analytics and visualization tools, statistical analysis, SPC, automated reporting, or inspection database systems. Proven ability to lead through technical expertise and influence cross-functional, geographically dispersed teams without direct reporting authority. Ability to translate complex metrology and inspection challenges into practical technical, operational, and business recommendations
Nice to Have
Advanced degree in engineering, metrology, or a related technical discipline. Experience in an aerospace OEM, MRO, FAA repair station, or gas turbine manufacturing environment. Experience developing or deploying robotic inspection and automated metrology systems. Experience with machine vision, automated defect recognition, AI-enabled inspection, or advanced inspection analytics. Six Sigma Black Belt, metrology certification, quality certification, or equivalent demonstrated expertise. Experience implementing enterprise inspection standards, software platforms, or technology roadmaps across multiple manufacturing or repair sites.
