We’re building a relationship-oriented bank for the modern world. We need talented, passionate professionals who are dedicated to doing what’s right for our clients.

At CIBC, we embrace your strengths and your ambitions, so you are empowered at work. Our team members have what they need to make a meaningful impact and are truly valued for who they are and what they contribute.

What you’ll be doing

As Director, NBFI & Private Credit within CIBC’s Risk Management group, you’ll support the oversight of counterparty credit risk for Non-Bank Financial Institutions (NBFI), Asset Securitization, and Private Credit lending activities. You’ll be responsible for adjudicating and managing trading, financing, and lending facilities for a diverse range of counterparties, including private credit funds, banks, sovereigns, hedge funds, pensions, insurance companies, and central clearing counterparties (CCPs).

In this role, you’ll contribute to the execution of credit risk strategies, policies, and procedures that support strong credit quality across global portfolios in Canada, the U.S., Europe, and Asia Pacific. Working closely with partners across Risk Management, Global Markets, Corporate Banking, Commercial Banking, and key control functions, you’ll help ensure sound risk oversight and alignment with CIBC’s risk appetite and regulatory expectations.

At CIBC, we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you’ll succeed

  • Counterparty Credit Risk Management – Support the adjudication and ongoing management of counterparty credit risk exposures within your portfolio, ensuring effective identification, assessment, and monitoring in line with CIBC’s risk policies, standards, and delegated authorities.
  • Policy Execution & Risk Discipline – Contribute to the implementation of credit policies, procedures, and risk management practices for NBFI and private credit portfolios, while providing input into policy enhancements based on market developments and portfolio trends.
  • Portfolio Oversight & Credit Adjudication – Exercise delegated lending authority for credit facilities and transactions within prescribed limits, and prepare sound recommendations for more complex transactions requiring senior approval.
  • Industry & Market Insight – Maintain current knowledge of market developments, industry trends, and counterparty-specific risks across sectors such as private credit, hedge funds, pensions, insurance, asset management, and broker dealers to support informed credit decisions.
  • Partnership & Stakeholder Management – Collaborate with business partners, senior risk professionals, and control groups to support transaction structuring, portfolio monitoring, and risk-based decision-making that aligns with business objectives and CIBC’s risk appetite.

Who you are

  • You have strong credit and product knowledge. You bring solid experience in counterparty credit risk, lending, and trading products, with the ability to assess moderately to highly complex credit facilities and transactions across NBFI and private credit portfolios.
  • You have relevant industry expertise. You understand the key risk drivers and business models across financial institutions and institutional counterparties, including hedge funds, pensions, insurance companies, asset managers, and broker dealers.
  • You’re an effective communicator and relationship builder. You can clearly present credit views and recommendations, influence stakeholders, and build strong working relationships across Risk, front office, and control partners.
  • You’re analytical and solutions-focused. You apply sound judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills to assess risk, identify issues, and recommend practical solutions.
  • You’re collaborative and supportive. You work well in team environments, contribute to collective outcomes, and provide guidance and support to peers and junior team members where appropriate.
  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work and live our values of trust, teamwork, and accountability.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
