What you'll be doing

As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership for the design and delivery of data products on CIBC's modern data platforms. You'll work closely with business partners and engineering teams to clarify requirements, design how data moves across systems, and guide implementation from concept through delivery. In this role, you'll contribute hands-on where needed while helping shape scalable, reliable, and customer-focused data solutions that support CIBC's digital transformation, cloud migration, and automation priorities. You'll also help evaluate and apply modern business intelligence and cloud technologies to improve reporting, dashboards, automation, and overall data capabilities. As a senior member of the team, you'll mentor other engineers and help ensure solutions align with CIBC's engineering and data standards.

How you'll succeed

  • Technical leadership - Lead solution design for data products and data pipelines on modern cloud platforms. Guide engineers through implementation decisions and support high-quality delivery that aligns with business needs and CIBC's engineering standards.
  • Data integration and delivery - Design and oversee how data moves between systems, including integration, transformation, and automation workflows. Support the delivery of reporting, dashboards, and related business intelligence solutions for internal partners.
  • Partnership and requirements planning - Collaborate with business partners, product owners, and technical teams to clarify requirements, define scalable solutions, and translate needs into actionable engineering plans.
  • Hands-on engineering - Contribute directly to development activities where needed, including building, enhancing, and optimizing data solutions using SQL, Python, and Azure-based technologies.
  • Operational excellence - Monitor production and user acceptance testing activities, troubleshoot complex issues, and identify opportunities to improve functionality, stability, performance, and efficiency across data services.
  • Coaching and continuous improvement - Mentor team members, share technical expertise, and promote best practices that strengthen delivery, innovation, and team capability.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate experience in data engineering and technical leadership. You bring 5+ years of experience designing and implementing data engineering solutions, with 3+ years leading technical work, including solution design, implementation guidance, and mentoring engineers. You have strong technical expertise and have experience with SQL, Python, Azure solution design, and Databricks. It's an asset if you have experience with Azure Data Factory, Power BI, or Microsoft Fabric.
