Job Overview

Citi’s Global Markets Equities division is seeking an experienced, quantitatively adept In-Business Market Risk manager. The Equities In-Business Market Risk team functions as the First Line of Defense (1LoD) accountable for proactively identifying, measuring, managing, and mitigating market risks, while ensuring the optimal allocation and efficiency of market risk regulatory capital across the global Equities franchise.

This role provides comprehensive risk oversight across core business lines—including Equity Derivatives, Cash Equities and Prime Services. A central mandate of this position is driving Front Office readiness, analytics, and strategic optimization for the Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB) under both the Standardized Approach (SA) and Internal Models Approach (IMA).

The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor and independent first-line challenger to desk heads and senior trading managements balancing commercial risk-taking with firm-wide risk appetite, capital constraints, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. Market Risk Capital Management & FRTB Implementation

  • Serve as the Front Office Subject Matter Expert on market risk regulatory capital frameworks.
  • Lead and support strategic market risk initiatives for FRTB implementation.
  • Analyze capital consumption trends, perform variance and driver analysis, identify capital-inefficient trading inventory, and collaborate with desks to formulate risk/capital optimization and compression strategies.
  • Contribute directly to Front Office regulatory deliverables, regulatory exams, and audit reviews concerning market risk capital methodologies and operational readiness.

2. Market Risk Identification, Analysis & Oversight

  • Monitor and assess intraday and end-of-day risk profiles across trading portfolios, ensuring exposures align with established business risk appetite and limits.
  • Identification, assessment, and monitoring of emerging and concentrated risk. Evaluate risk / return of transactions to influence decision-making, help design appropriate hedging strategies.
  • Perform risk analysis including sensitivity, scenario stress testing, VaR analysis as well as ad-hoc desk / product specific review.

3. Risk Governance and Limit Management

  • Partner with trading desk heads and independent market risk management (2nd Line of Defense) to calibrate, propose, and implement market risk limits.
  • Provide constructive, independent first-line challenge to trading strategies, assumptions, and risk concentrations, Communicate risk view to senior management.
  • Foster close partnerships across 2nd Line Independent Risk, Finance, Market Risk Quants (MQA), Product Control, Regulatory Capital Operations, and Technology teams.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience preferably in Equities Market Risk or Trading, Degree in a Quantitative or Financial discipline.
  • Advanced knowledge of Equity Markets and risk dynamics of Equity products.
  • Deep subject matter expertise in market risk capital framework including FRTB SA and IMA.
  • Exceptional analytical, quantitative, and numerical competency with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Consistently clear and concise written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex messages clearly and concisely with senior stakeholders
  • Ability to influence senior business leaders, and external stakeholders on all risk-related matters and to provide critical thinking, independent challenge, and decisive action where necessary.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and maintain strong relationships with trading desks, second-line risk teams and other partners.

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
  • Preferably in a quantitative field such as Finance, Economics, Engineering, or Statistics.
