SECURITY/PARKING ENFORCEMENT SPECIALIST

Compensation Details:

  • GRADE: 09T
  • MIN. HOURLY WAGE: $25.36

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The security/parking enforcement specialist is responsible for providing security to the Key West Bight and City Marina properties. They are responsible for inspecting the property and structures to ensure maintenance and safety. Also responsible for enforcing, with limited police powers, metered parking time limits, special parking permits and general parking violations of state law and City ordinance. Monitoring at CCTV Security Systems.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Job consists mainly of walking the Key West Bight and City Marina properties. Driving a city vehicle between the properties to perform job functions. Frequently the assigned areas of patrol are covered on foot. Outdoor exposure to all weather conditions inherent to Key West.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Monitor designated facilities and properties to ensure compliance with security policies.
  • Respond to any security violations and request police as necessary.
  • Inspect assigned properties; document and report all maintenance needs, safety concerns, cosmetic deficiencies, general abnormalities or other issues on assigned properties to appropriate staff.
  • Verify parking permits and enforce parking regulations, including improper parking, and meter violations, in Key west Bight, City-Marina controlled lots, and other assigned areas.
  • Issue citations as appropriate.
  • Prepare reports documenting incidents, security violations, and deviations from established policies for management review.
  • Interact professionally with the public, including individuals who may be upset or distressed.
  • Coordinate with private security firm.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/ SKILLS/ ABILITIES:

  • Ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergencies.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to enforce security requirements and parking violations indicated with tact, firmness courtesy.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and adequately perform assigned duties under adverse conditions.
  • Ability to respond effectively to security incidents involving angry or disoriented individuals.
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Effective oral and written language skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess a class D security license or be able to acquire one within ninety (90) days of employment
  • Must obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) within ninety (90) days of employment
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Experience interacting with the public
  • Availability to flex work hours or days within 24-hour notice
  • One (1) year experience preferred as a security officer (not parking related)
  • Bilingual in Spanish is desirable; any second language is a plus.
  • A responsible, authoritative position providing security in the Truman Water Front Parks and have the ability to recognize and eliminate or minimize potentially dangerous situations.
  • This position is for a strong and physically fit person to perform all types of laboring work, i.e., excavating, filling holes in streets, mowing lawns, use of weed eater, collecting garbage, using small power tools, saws, drills, mowers, etc. Will work as a janitor if required. Work location is Truman Water Front and other areas in the City when needed and as directed.
