Job Description

Transportation Planning and Management (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. The Division’s responsibilities include planning, street design, curb management, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility and markings, and ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists.

The Office of Livable Streets (OLS) is tasked with prioritizing strategic planning, community engagement, research, policy, design, implementation, and long-term management. Their goal is to create streets that are livable, supporting safety, accessibility, inclusion, resiliency, active modes, community cohesion, and economic vitality citywide. Additionally, they aim to enhance New York City's pedestrian, bicycle, and micromobility networks, providing comfortable, connected, green, and reliable transportation options across the five boroughs. They place special emphasis on Priority Investment Areas, mode shift, and reimagining streets. The office also develops innovative new programs, design typologies, project delivery, and analysis tools to meet the demands of a rapidly changing population with evolving needs and technologies.

The Cycling & Micromobility (C&M) Unit is responsible for the nation’s largest network of on-street bicycle facilities (1,500+ lane-miles), enhancing street safety, and increasing bike ridership in NYC. The team’s primary focus is on innovative redesign of City streets to expand and improve the bike network.

The Cycling & Micromobility Unit seeks to hire a highly motivated and detail-oriented GIS & Data Manager to support the management, analysis, and continuous improvement of the unit's GIS datasets, project databases, and reporting systems. Under the supervision of senior staff, the selected candidate will maintain and enhance spatial and tabular data, perform GIS analysis, develop maps and visualizations, and support data-driven planning, reporting, and decision-making across the unit.

The selected candidate will coordinate with planners, engineers, designers, project managers, and partner agencies to translate transportation projects into accurate spatial data, improve data quality and reporting systems, and support the production of the official New York City Bike Map. The position will play a central role in maintaining the unit's project tracking systems and developing new tools and workflows that improve the accuracy, efficiency, and accessibility of Cycling & Micromobility data. The candidate will manage GIS datasets and project databases supporting bicycle and micromobility planning, capital project development, network tracking, and reporting. The candidate will translate transportation projects into accurate spatial and tabular data through review of engineering plans, project documents, aerial imagery, and field observations to maintain the City's authoritative bicycle network dataset. The candidate will perform GIS analysis and prepare maps, dashboards, reports, and data visualizations to support planning studies, project development, performance reporting, and executive decision-making. The candidate will coordinate with planners, engineers, designers, project managers, and partner agencies to collect, validate, and integrate project information across multiple data systems. The candidate will develop new database tools, reporting workflows, and quality control procedures that improve project tracking, network analysis, and organizational efficiency. The candidate will support production of the official New York City Bike Map and prepare maps, exhibits, and other visual materials for presentations, public outreach, and agency communications. The candidate will perform other related duties as assigned.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
