Job Description

The Pathways to Public Safety Division is seeking a Misdemeanor Case Coordinator. The Pathways Division was created in 2022 to strategically advance our Office’s public safety goals. Pathways is responsible for the Office’s work related to pre-arraignment diversion (Project Reset and Rapid Reset), criminal court treatment dispositions, the felony problem-solving courts, restorative justice practices, reentry and is dedicated to supporting and developing community-based prevention initiatives. The Misdemeanor Case Coordinator is responsible for collaborating with Pathways leadership and Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) to screen appropriate defendants for programming, manage a caseload of misdemeanor programming cases, monitor participant compliance, recommend appropriate interventions, and report treatment outcomes.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Support the management of program participants and prospective participants in the misdemeanor problem-solving courts in the Pathways to Public Safety Division. Assist with tracking case deadlines, following up on required actions, and updating ADAs and supervisors on case status. - Attend case conferences and court appearances, including virtual and in-person proceedings, as required. Discuss proposed treatment plans, take notes, and relay case updates, needs, and recommendations to ADAs and supervisors. Attend case conferences and stakeholder meetings, as needed. - Review and summarize problem-solving court applicants’ records. Participate in Pathways-in-Person Interviews (PIPs) and post-interview discussions to assess applicants’ needs. Share observations and service needs during case conferences. - Coordinate with ADAs in the Pathways to Public Safety Division, Trial Division, and Special Victims Division to ensure the misdemeanor problem-solving court calendars are fully organized and prepared ahead of court appearances. Troubleshoot issues, exercise sound judgment, and provide solution-oriented support on complex or challenging cases. - Review service provider reports related to participants’ progress. Flag discrepancies or concerns and share relevant information with ADAs and/or supervisors. - Communicate case and court part related information to colleagues, supervisors, and ADAs, including coverage needs and scheduling changes. Provide case summaries when coverage is required to support continuity of court and case operations. - Organize systems to track misdemeanor cases in treatment courts. Maintain updated and organized electronic case files. Update spreadsheets and records following case events. Prepare for case conferences by tracking case posture and participant status. - Maintain familiarity with service providers and the New York City treatment landscape and remain abreast of relevant evidence-based practices by participating in trainings and professional development opportunities. - Demonstrate proficiency in DANY computer applications for case organization, coordination, and management. Implement updated procedures or protocols as Division needs evolve and as directed. - Work on specialized projects as required, provide coverage and offer/participate in cross-training as needed. - Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

In addition to the Minimum Qualification Requirements, candidates must possess the following:

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college; and - Case work, case management or clinical experience or equivalent with one of the following years of experience: o Level 1 - One (1) year of case work, case management or clinical experience or equivalent. o Level 2 - Two (2) years of case work, case management or clinical experience or equivalent. o Level 3 - Three (3) years of case work, case management or clinical experience or equivalent. o Level 4 - Four (4) years of case work, case management or clinical experience or equivalent. o Level 5 - Five (5) years of case work, case management or clinical experience or equivalent.

*Master’s degree can be substituted for years of experience. *

Preferred Requirements/Skills:

- Bilingual Spanish-speaking. - Master's degree in social work, social sciences or CASAC credentialing. - Excellent organizational and critical thinking skills are essential. - Ability to work independently with frequent interruptions, manage deadlines, and adapt to changes in workflow. - Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ability to follow directions and apply established policies, procedures, and guidelines. - Ability to learn, update, and edit existing proprietary applications and quickly learn to use various computer systems. - Ability to interact and communicate (orally and in writing) with all levels of staff, court representatives, law enforcement representatives and program participants. - Knowledge of the social service landscape in New York City. - Familiarity with the concepts of Risk-Need-Responsivity, procedural justice, and problem-solving courts. - Demonstrated commitment to and/or interest in the use of rehabilitative services within the criminal justice system to promote public safety and behavioral change.

- Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have already served at least 1 year in their current position and be in good standing. In addition, must meet the minimum qualifications of the position. - Looking for candidates that could commit to two (2) years to the hiring unit. - Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position.

Qualification Requirements 1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or 2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
