Job Description

Transportation Planning and Management (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. The Division’s responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility, and markings, ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists.

The Office of Livable Streets (OLS) is tasked with prioritizing strategic planning, community engagement, research, policy, design, implementation, and long-term management. Their goal is to create streets that are livable, supporting safety, accessibility, inclusion, resiliency, active modes, community cohesion, and economic vitality citywide. Additionally, they aim to enhance New York City's pedestrian, bicycle, and micromobility networks, providing comfortable, connected, green, and reliable transportation options across the five boroughs. They place special emphasis on Priority Investment Areas, mode shift, and reimagining streets. The office also develops innovative new programs, design typologies, project delivery, and analysis tools to meet the demands of a rapidly changing population with evolving needs and technologies.

The Cycling & Micromobility Unit is responsible for the nation's largest network of on-street bicycle facilities (1,200+ lane-miles), enhancing street safety for all users, and increasing bike ridership in the five boroughs. The team's focus is the innovative redesign of city streets to expand and improve the bike network, with emphasis on improving connectivity between neighborhoods, increasing access to safe bicycle infrastructure across the city, and creating a more equitable transportation network that serves all New Yorkers. The Cycling & Micromobility Unit seeks to hire a Program Operations Coordinator to assist the Chief of Cycling & Micromobility with administrative and programmatic duties. The Program Operations Coordinator will be responsible for managing the Chief’s calendar and scheduling meetings with internal and external entities. The Program Operations Coordinator will report on the Chief’s schedule and support meeting preparation by developing agendas, coordinating materials, taking minutes, and ensuring participants’ attendance. Responsibilities also include preparing and maintaining reports on incoming and completed requests and initiatives, ensuring accuracy and timeliness; flagging emails requiring timely follow-up; and coordinating regular unit progress reports for DOT leadership.

The selected candidate will maintain organized filing systems to ensure proper recordkeeping and accessibility and support improvements to the Unit’s file management system. The selected candidate will collaborate with the Unit’s senior leadership team and staff across DOT to address complex issues or escalate matters as needed. The selected candidate will work closely with OLS’s Director of Administration on administrative duties and procurement activities that support the Chief and the Unit. Additional duties may include filing and maintaining employee documentation, such as sick leave records; compiling tasks and standards and performance evaluations; and coordinating staff grant sheets. The selected candidate will coordinate external partner contacts, potentially conduct field observations, support outreach events, and provide general project support for the Unit’s programs and initiatives. The selected candidate will manage all aspects of the distribution of NYC DOT’s Bike Map, including coordinating with bicycle retailers citywide, managing shipments, and maintaining inventory. The selected candidate will coordinate all correspondence and mail, ensuring the Chief of Cycling & Micromobility receives external correspondence and that responses are prepared accordingly. The candidate will also support the Cycling & Micromobility Unit’s customer service coordination by assisting with processing correspondence, distributing assignments to appropriate staff, tracking responses, and drafting responses to correspondence received through NYC DOT’s public-facing website, the Mayor’s Office, the 311 Call Center, social media posts, and hard-copy mail addressed to the Commissioner related to the Unit’s projects and initiatives.

This position may require work on weekends and evenings to participate in staffing events and workshops across the city. The ideal candidate is passionate about expanding the reach of cycling in New York City, is well organized, and has strong communication skills, writing, verbal, and people skills to effectively respond to a variety of inquiries in a professional and courteous manner in compliance with NYC DOT standards.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
