GENERAL DESCRIPTION   Under the supervision of the Custodial Division Manager, to help oversee and supervise routine custodial activities and staff.  This position is responsible for training new employees; coordinating work duties and schedules; and also serves as safety coordinator.      SUPERVISION EXERCISED   This position exercises supervision over custodial staff and crew chiefs.   IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES   Oversee custodial work and crew chiefs, maintaining high standards of safety, cleanliness and efficiency.   Ensure all positions are covered during vacations or illnesses.   Responsible for the Custodial Services Division in the absence of the Custodial Services Manager.   Evaluate performance of custodial staff and provide recommendations to Custodial Services Manager and assist with disciplinary action.    Routinely inspect all custodial work areas and address any complaints or concerns.    Conduct safety meetings.    Coordinate and oversee crew with stripping and waxing duties. Assist with the division equipment replacement and maintenance process.   Assist with the development of the Custodial Services Department budget; to include equipment, materials and supplies.   OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES   Perform other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned. Assist with the division equipment replacement and maintenance process.   KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES   Knowledge of:   Occupational Hazards and safety precautions of custodial operations and proper use and care of a variety of tools, materials, and equipment common to custodial operations.   All buildings that are assigned to custodial staff.   Mail courier services operations.                Skill to:   Operate all custodial equipment including vacuum cleaner, carpet machine, floor scrubber and buffer.   Operate a postage machine.                       Basic computer skills.   Provide exemplary customer service to internal and external customers in all circumstances and potentially stressful situations.   Ability to:   Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.   Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work, both internally and externally.               Follow and embrace the City of Abilene Core Values – Respect, Integrity, Service Above Self, and Excellence in All We Do.               Lead, manage, and perform as a team member in a manner that accomplishes the Division’s mission and treats team members with dignity, courtesy, and respect. Experience and Training Guidelines:   Any combination equivalent to experience and training to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be qualifying.  Knowledge, skills, and abilities may be obtained through:   Experience:   Two (2) years of custodial service experience with one (1) year supervisory experience.                          Education/Training:   A high school diploma or GED is required.                License or Certificate:             A valid Texas driver’s license; the ability to obtain one within ninety (90) days, or a military waiver is required.   Special Requirements:   Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:   Ability to sit, stand, walk, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl, twist, and climb.   With or without the accommodation, ability to lift 40 pounds.   Ability to travel to different job sites.   Pass a comprehensive Federal background check.   With or without accommodation, the “X” indicates the overall strength demand of the position during a typical workday:               _     Sedentary – lifting of no more than 10 pounds             _     Light – lifting no more than 20 pounds; carrying up to 10 pounds             _X   Medium – lifting no more than 50 pounds; carrying up to 25 pounds             _     Heavy – lifting no more than 100 pounds; carrying up to 50 pounds             ___     Very Heavy – team lifting over 100 pounds; carrying more than 50 pounds   Physical Demand Codes: The following describes whether or not the position is expected to exert the physical demands listed during a typical workday as well as the overall frequency of the task:       Codes for how often: N         =          No E         =          Extensive (100 – 70% of the time) M         =          Moderate (60 – 30% of the time) I           =          Infrequent (20 – 10% of the time) A         =          Almost Never (<10% of the time)
