The City of Lawrence seeks a detail‑oriented and collaborative Organizational Equity Coordinator to support citywide equity initiatives. Work Schedule & Location: This is a 32 hour per week salaried position that works primarily remotely. The position requires regular in-person availability in Lawrence, including periodic on-site work at City Hall or other City locations, generally on a weekly basis or as operational needs require. SummaryReporting to the Director of Equity & Inclusion, this position supports the City’s efforts to advance equitable and inclusive services, programs, and community engagement. The Coordinator works collaboratively across City departments and with community partners to support organizational equity initiatives and strengthen relationships with diverse communities. The position also provides administrative, analytical, and project coordination support to the Equity & Inclusion function. Responsibilities: Serves as a liaison between City departments, key community partners, and underrepresented communities to support the equitable delivery of City and community services. Provides guidance and leadership on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, including identifying structural barriers, evaluating policies and practices, and developing strategies to improve service delivery. Facilitates conversations, training, and community engagement efforts that promote inclusion and reduce barriers to participation for culturally and economically diverse communities. Researches best practices, prepares reports on equity initiatives, and serves as a liaison to the LGBTQ+ community. Responds to resident questions and service requests in a timely, courteous, and equitable manner. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Communications, Sociology, Social Work, Education, Organizational Development, Ethnic Studies, Diversity Management, or a related field, and two years of related experience in organizational development, training, community engagement, or diversity, equity, and inclusion. Relevant paid or volunteer experience working with diverse or underrepresented communities is preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
