Job Summary:

Print and fold signatures that meet specs on work order to create bindery ready bundles for books that meet or exceed our customer’s expectations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Read and understand work order verifying correct substrate, bind type, ink color, and run lengths.
  • Learn to interpret the information on the work order and its contents.
  • Follow daily running order provided by Scheduling Team.
  • Communicate with Supervisor and Scheduling Team as needed.
  • Set up machine and perform quality printing and folding of text and halftone work.
  • Maintain high throughput by performing quick and efficient make-readies, job changeovers and folder changeovers.
  • Inspect for quality defects ensuring quality standards are achieved.
  • Maintain accurate data collections.
  • Understand substrate – weights, PPI, size, grain direction, coating, marking and storage.
  • Oversee all segments of press operation.
  • Ensure bundles conform to bindery needs including proper identification.
  • Be sure all waste is disposed of properly including printed and blank substrate, inks, and fountain solution.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, general cleaning and upkeep of machine and auxiliary equipment.
  • Provide training to Assistant in machine operation and safety; ensure Assistant performs duties as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot and perform minor repairs to machine and auxiliary equipment.
  • Assist maintenance personnel with machine repair.
  • Exercise initiative, ask questions and look for ways of improving productivity.
  • Keep area safe and clean.
  • Adequately communicate with oncoming shift
  • Perform end of shift duties leaving area ready for oncoming shift.
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school Diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and /or training; or equivalent combination of education or experience.
  • One year of printing experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as work orders, workplace and safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Basic math skills, add subtract, and ability to use a measuring device.
  • Basic problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. frequently, 20lbs constantly
  • Constantly be able to work in the work activities
  • Moving to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another,
  • Communicating with others to exchange information,
  • Operating machine and/or power tools
  • Work in noisy environments
  • Occasionally be able to do the listed activities
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like
  • Moving self in different position to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight spaces
  • Remain in stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods
  • Adjusting or moving objects up to 50 lbs. in all directions
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Assessing the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned
  • Work in high temperatures, small and/or enclosed spaces
