The posting

Grow with the challenge

At the time of inception, cloud-based systems and API fluency were new. But that didn't scare us. We waved goodbye to legacy systems and embraced modern technology – where our true innovation began and didn't stop.

No hierarchy, no egos. Just a spirit of collaboration that flows right throughout our organisation – it’s woven into our DNA. We genuinely want to know about each other’s learnings and expertise, especially where it can help us achieve bigger things.

At ClearBank, we make things happen. We solve problems together because we know that many heads are always better than one. Valuing different perspectives is what sets our culture apart. And being able to disagree and commit is key to our progress. Above all we’re a team because when we win together, it feels so much better than doing it alone.

What you can expect:

ClearBank is a place where you can do things differently and challenge the status quo. We will give you a high level of autonomy and transparency, and we trust you to make the right decisions for the bank.

If that excites you, how about joining our Security Engineering team as a Security Engineer, reporting to the team’s Engineering Manager. The team are responsible for reducing the likelihood and impact of cyber risks for ClearBank and drive adoption of security best practice. As a cross-cutting concern, we are involved with all major initiatives across the business. We also work closely with technology leadership to ensure security is woven into all processes. We are a remote-first team with members all over the UK.

ClearBank is committed to harnessing cutting-edge technologies, such as AI, AKS, automation and scalable solutions, to secure a competitive edge in the marketplace. Our responsibility is to ensure these innovations are adopted securely, enabling the business to move forward safely. The security engineering team works with software development teams to improve application security and provides security oversight and support to many other areas of the business. We work alongside four other security teams who cover Identity Access Management, Security Operations, Governance and Compliance, and Data Privacy. Our team won the Best Implementation of DevSecOps at the Computing DevOps Excellence Awards 2024, and Most Effective DevSecOps Team of 2023).

Your role includes:

- Working alongside other security engineers to gain familiarity with the organisation’s processes and technologies.

- The opportunity to build your skills in AI security, application security, and to keep up to date with the latest technology.

- Collaborating with software development and platform teams to help them to deliver and maintain secure products using modern technologies. In the process you will build credibility and trust with them.

- Championing security best practices and running security consultations / training sessions.

- Trialling new technologies and pave the way for their adoption

- Supporting existing security tooling and evaluating new tools as they become available.

- Risk-based vulnerability management, taking a pragmatic approach to balancing security, customer, and business needs. Communicating these risks to the business.

What you’ll bring:

- To excel in this role, you’ll also need:

- Experience in writing code and working in a cloud native environment. ClearBank primarily uses Azure, .NET, Terraform, and Kubernetes, so experience with these (or equivalent technologies) is beneficial.

- Adaptability and commitment to continuous learning and self-development.

- Great communication skills so that you can clearly articulate security risks and improvements to a variety of stakeholders around the business.

- Good security knowledge and enthusiasm for software security.

- Understanding of common software vulnerabilities and the ability to describe them to different audiences. Awareness of the wider security landscape.

- Be a motivated team player who is delivery focused and can suggest solutions as to how things can be done better.

Nice to have:

- Experience in a fintech environment or similar upscale organisation.

- Experience working with AI security and governance and leveraging the latest technology to stay ahead of the attackers.

Regretfully we are not able to sponsor applicants for immigration purposes at the current time.

What makes a great ClearBank team member? Does this sound like you?

- You focus on solutions and positive outcomes, thinking radically and responsibly to find the best result for our customers, your colleagues and the bank.

- You actively seek feedback from others to drive your growth and development, always assuming positive intent from others and develop strong, trusting relationships with your colleagues and customers; you really, genuinely care.

- You always strive for the highest quality, but you know that done is better than perfect. You welcome a challenge knowing that you will learn as you go and iterate.

- ‘I’ before ’we’, isn’t in your vocabulary

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
