The posting

The Department of Public Health at Faculty of Health Sciences at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as tenure track Assistant Professor in the field of Advanced Practice Nursing as per 1 January 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position with the possibility of subsequent permanent employment as an associate professor.

About the Department The Department of Public Health is a research-intensive environment dedicated to advancing both fundamental scientific knowledge and applied solutions to major public health challenges. Our research spans theoretical, basic, and applied sciences, with the shared ambition of generating impactful knowledge and improving population health. Academic excellence is at the core of everything we do. We are committed to conducting rigorous and innovative research and delivering high-quality teaching. The department is responsible for teaching within public health, sport science, nursing science, health science and related methodological disciplines, as well as a substantial part of the teaching in the medical degree programme.

While firmly rooted in our respective disciplines, we actively foster interdisciplinary collaboration to advance innovation and excellence in both research and education. We are equally committed to cultivating a healthy, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture characterized by open dialogue, mutual respect, and an informal atmosphere. We believe that academic excellence and personal well-being are mutually reinforcing and essential to long-term success. You can read more about the department here and about the faculty here.

Your job responsibilities We offer an attractive career opportunity for promising and talented researchers from around the world. The position is a career development position with the possibility of transition to a tenured associate professorship. We will work together with you to develop your research talent through supervision, professional networks and pedagogical upgrading.

As Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Advanced Practice Nursing your primary tasks will be research and research-based teaching. You will teach and supervise students at Bachelor’s and Master’s level, and you will contribute to the development of the department through research of the highest international quality. In your daily work, you will work closely with both Danish and international colleagues.

We are looking for a candidate with a strong clinical background and substantial experience from practice, who is motivated by interdisciplinary collaboration. While this is an early-career academic position, we expect the successful candidate to demonstrate the ability and ambition to assume responsibility for coordinating research activities, fostering collaborations, and contributing proactively to the strategic development of the section.

Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Independent research of the highest international quality, including publication.
  • Teaching, guidance and examination of Master's degree students, as well as possible supervision of PhD students.
  • Contributing to interdisciplinary research and collaboration across professions, organisations and sectors.
  • Some degree of contribution towards attracting external research funding.
  • Taking an active role in coordinating and developing the section.
  • Supporting the continued development of a strong, collaborative and internationally oriented research environment.

You will report to the Head of Department.

Your competences You have independent research qualifications at a high international level and are a clear communicator with experience in teaching and supervision at Master's degree level. We value pedagogical training in supervision or teaching, as well as experience with external research collaborations. Importantly, you bring substantial clinical experience and you understand the value of integrating clinical insight with research and education, and you are committed to strengthening links between research, practice, and policy.

We expect you to be able to teach and supervise Master's students in making comprehensive theoretical assessments of citizens with complex healthcare needs within a nursing context. The purpose of these assessments is to identify and propose solutions through interdisciplinary collaboration and coordination across professional and sectoral boundaries.

We are particularly interested in candidates who thrive in interdisciplinary environments, recognize the value of diverse professional perspectives, and are able to build productive collaborations across disciplines. Furthermore, although this is a career development position, we expect you to show the maturity, initiative and organisational skills required to take responsibility for coordinating research activities and contributing to the ongoing development and direction of the research section.

As a person, you have excellent interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented, and contribute positively to a supportive and ambitious working environment.

We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English. International applicants are expected to learn Danish, and Aarhus University offers courses in Danish language.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
