Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Shared responsibility for design and development of fiber optic transceivers. This includes analysis, modeling, simulation, and measurement of optical and electrical performance.
  • Part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team working on optical transceiver products from conception to volume manufacturing readiness.
  • Work closely with firmware, optical, mechanical, and process engineers to design/develop transceiver products per customer requirements.
  • Must be hands-on in every step of design process including conceptual and detailed design, prototype build and verification, and final design selection.
  • Create drawings, BOMS and ECO to document design. Interact with program manager, buyer/planner, suppliers to make sure designed parts are available in timely manner for engineering and pilot build.
  • Perform transceiver design reviews for Architectural, EVT, DVT phase reviews.

Education & Experience

  • B.S. degree required (M.S. preferred, Ph.D. a plus) in electrical engineering
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience

Skills & Other Requirements

  • Strong analog circuit design skills required
  • In-depth understanding/intuition of RF/microwave, power, noise, control, thermal and EMI.
  • Strong understanding of circuit theory, linear system theory, feedback, ICs, and high-speed fundamentals required
  • Strong laboratory measurement skills required
  • Experience with board level design cycle
  • Expertise in RF/microwave design using modeling tools such as CST or HFSS a plus
  • Experience with electronics CAD tools and electronic system modelling
  • Understanding of microprocessors and real time control firmware a plus
  • Familiarity with electro-optic devices such as EMLs, CW lasers and Silicon Photonics a plus

Working Conditions

  • This position is on site.
  • May require occasional off-site meetings or travel
  • Regular use of a computer and other office equipment is necessary
  • Interaction with team members and external contacts is a regular part of the job
  • May require occasional overtime and flexibility in work hours

Physical Requirements

  • Sitting for extended periods while working on a computer or conducting meetings.
  • Use of hands and fingers for typing, writing, and handling documents.
  • Occasional lifting of objects or materials up to 20 pounds for lab or administrative tasks.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Mobility within the office environment to attend meetings or interact with colleagues.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary engineering team to design and develop fiber optic transceivers.
  • Analyze, model, simulate, and measure optical and electrical performance, ensuring product quality and reliability.
  • Work closely with firmware, optical, mechanical, and process engineering teams to align product development with customer requirements.
  • Apply in-depth understanding and intuition of electrical engineering solutions to address RF, power, noise, control, thermal, and EMI challenges.
  • Create detailed drawings, BOMs, and ECOs to document the design, ensuring accurate and timely communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Interact with program managers, buyers/planners, and suppliers to ensure the timely availability of designed parts for engineering and pilot builds.
  • Resolve all DFMs (Design for Manufacturability) issues raised by process/production engineering and component suppliers, ensuring smooth manufacturing processes.
  • Conduct transceiver design reviews for architectural, EVT (Engineering Verification Test), and DVT (Design Verification Test) phases, ensuring design integrity and compliance with standards.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies in optical transceivers, contributing to the continuous improvement of our products.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on RF, power, noise, control, thermal, and EMI.
  • Strong understanding of optical transceiver technologies and their applications.
  • Proficiency in optical and electrical performance analysis, modeling, and simulation tools.
  • Experience in creating detailed drawings, BOMs, and ECOs for product documentation.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with a proactive approach to resolving technical challenges.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to optical transceivers.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and industry trends.
