Position Summary: The Chef de Cuisine is responsible for leading all culinary operations, managing kitchen staff performance, and ensuring the highest standards of food quality, safety, and creativity. This role oversees menu development, financial performance, and guest satisfaction while supporting Columbia Hospitality’s values-driven, people-first culture. The Chef de Cuisine acts as a key leader in the property’s Food & Beverage program, ensuring the culinary experience consistently exceeds expectations. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Oversees daily kitchen operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and consistency in food preparation and service. Selects, trains, mentors, and evaluates culinary team members; provides ongoing coaching and performance management. Collaborates with the leadership team and property stakeholders to plan, coordinate, and execute special and catered events. Develops and maintains menus with creativity, seasonal relevance, and alignment to brand standards. Leads department meetings and communicates operational goals, standards, and updates to team members. Monitors guest satisfaction, responds to feedback, and ensures service excellence across all outlets. Implements and enforces safety, sanitation, and quality standards throughout the kitchen. Develops and monitors budgets for food cost, labor, and operating expenses; ensures fiscal discipline. Conducts monthly inventory counts and verifies accuracy of kitchen payroll and scheduling. Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations. Partners with purchasing to maintain proper inventory levels and vendor relationships. Fosters collaboration across departments to ensure smooth event execution and operational efficiency. Assures timely completion of administrative tasks including reporting, scheduling, and performance documentation. Demonstrates behaviors consistent with Columbia Hospitality’s core values of respect, integrity, and excellence. Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned by management to support departmental and organizational goals.

Bachelor’s degree (BA) in culinary arts, hospitality management, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and 5–6 years of relevant culinary management experience. Proven success in leading and developing culinary teams in a resort, hotel, or distinguished dining environment. Advanced culinary knowledge, including menu creation, food costing, and event catering. Strong business and financial acumen, including labor management and budget control. Excellent leadership, conflict management, and communication skills. Must possess working knowledge of restaurant equipment, food and wine pairings, and culinary trends. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other business software. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Must demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and ability to manage competing priorities. Necessary State Food Handler’s License(s) required. Must have the ability to communicate effectively (verbally and written) in English. Must possess excellent business communication skills (both written and verbal) in order to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints; and to make effective presentations to top management, employees, public groups and/or boards of directors. The ability to handle issues with integrity and confidentiality. The ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and the ability to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form is required to successfully perform the essential duties described above. Ability to manage according to employment and industry-relevant laws. To successfully perform the duties described, conflict management and negotiation skills are required. Excellent people skills. Have a friendly and enthusiastic demeanor. Be detail-oriented, and have exceptional organizational skills.
