Job Summary

This role is responsible for identifying, incubating, and advancing automation opportunities across the Global Engineering Operations organization. The successful candidate will develop business cases, create process flow diagrams, author business / product / technical requirements, and maintain comprehensive documentation of automation initiatives throughout their lifecycle. The Engineer III will play a key role in managing and communicating the ongoing evolution, progress, risks, dependencies, and value realization of the Global Engineering Operations automation portfolio. This individual will maintain strong partnerships with frontline Service Delivery and Service Assurance teams through regular, extended operational shadow sessions to ensure automation strategies remain aligned with real-world operational challenges and opportunities. Working in a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) capacity, this role will serve as a direct extension of the Director of Global Engineering Operations Automation, driving tactical execution of strategic automation initiatives week-to-week, acting as the conduit between frontline ops and development teams. The position requires translating long-term automation vision and financial objectives into actionable workstreams, enabling measurable operational efficiencies, improved employee and customer outcomes, and achievement of long-range business goals, while remaining a hands-on contributor to solution design and architecture / dev plans and progress. The role sits at the cross-section of Artificial Intelligence, Network Engineering, Process Engineering, and Software Engineering.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a deep connection w/ frontline ops teams through regular process and organizational shadowing
  • Works with Ops leaders to formulate detailed business cases that justify each automation project within the portfolio
  • Leads extended frontline operations process shadowing sessions aimed at translating complex business processes into development-ready requirements
  • Sits with dev team to ensure detailed process understanding upon requirements handoff and iteratively through development
  • Supports the Director of Network Engineering Ops Automation on portfolio / platform strategy and incubation
  • Technologically curious and proactively researches emerging technology trends related to Agentic AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), RAG architecture, and operations automation
  • Developing technical specifications, requirements, and algorithms to drive the innovation of future products and applications
  • Providing expert solutions to complex technical problems, independently determining and developing approaches to solutions
  • Evaluating and test solutions from internal and external partners, ensuring they meet company standards and contribute to product development
  • Leading case studies, testing, and reporting to derive insights and inform product improvements
  • Designing and building prototypes, conducting research to support product development and application enhancement
  • Managing resources effectively, organizing and maintaining project materials and documentation
  • Authoring and revising technical documentation, including white papers, evaluation plans, and formal recommendations
  • Innovating by contributing to the creation of patents, APIs, and other intellectual property
  • Representing the technical team in cross-functional collaborations, providing solutions to project-related technical issues
  • Mentoring junior researchers, offering guidance and promoting knowledge sharing within the team
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.
