Position Summary

The Estimator prepares and coordinates accurate, competitive estimates for commercial HVAC, plumbing, piping, controls, and related mechanical work. This role translates bid documents and customer requirements into a clear scope, cost, risk, and execution plan for management review. This position reports to the Senior Estimator.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop complete labor, material, equipment, subcontract, and indirect-cost estimates for assigned commercial mechanical bids.
  • Review plans, specifications, addenda, schedules, alternates, and contract requirements; document scope, assumptions, exclusions, and risk.
  • Perform or validate takeoffs for plumbing, piping, sheet-metal, equipment, fixtures, valves, supports, insulation, and related systems.
  • Prepare pre-bid questions, material matrices, vendor and subcontractor solicitations, bid comparisons, and estimate recapitulations.
  • Coordinate with engineering, BIM, operations, procurement, and field leaders to validate means, methods, productivity, phasing, and constructability.
  • Prepare professional proposals and required bid forms and participate in estimate reviews, interviews, and handoff meetings.
  • Maintain accurate historical cost, productivity, vendor, and outcome data and apply lessons learned to future estimates.
  • Manage priorities and milestones so deliverables are complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of commercial construction estimating, project engineering, field leadership, or closely related mechanical experience.
  • Working knowledge of commercial plumbing, mechanical piping, sheet-metal, equipment, labor productivity, and construction sequencing.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, addenda, contracts, and technical submittals.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating, takeoff, document-management, and collaboration software.
  • Strong numerical accuracy, organization, communication, judgment, and deadline management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, architectural engineering, construction science, or a related field.
  • Journeyman-level trade experience or completion of a mechanical apprenticeship.
  • Experience with Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Fabrication, Power BI, and mechanical estimating platforms.
  • Experience with design-build, conceptual, negotiated, healthcare, data center, or other complex projects.

What you can expect

  • Exceptional health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid Employee-Only Medical Coverage.
  • In-house and manufacturer-led training and leadership development.
  • Long-term career growth into operations, sales, technical, and/or leadership roles.
  • Comprehensive benefits package and employer-sponsored professional memberships.
  • 401(k) match, PTO, holiday pay, and more.
  • Eligibility for the annual incentive program based on role and plan terms.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office with regular visits to active construction sites, customer facilities, shops, or meetings. Site visits may require walking uneven surfaces, using stairs, wearing required PPE, and exposure to weather, noise, dust, and moving equipment. Local travel and schedule flexibility are required based on project needs.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
