Position Summary

The Project Accounting Manager leads DynaTen's project accounting function and develops the Project Accountant team. The role oversees project setup, job-cost accounting, forecasting, work-in-progress reporting, construction billing, revenue recognition support, project closeout, and related controls while partnering with Project Managers, Project Executives, and Operations leadership to improve financial accuracy, visibility, and accountability. This position reports to the Controller.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop Project Accountants; establish priorities and performance expectations; and support hiring, onboarding, training, evaluations, succession, and cross-training.
  • Oversee project setup, contract entry, budgets, cost codes, billing requirements, and financial structures in company systems.
  • Ensure labor, equipment, material, subcontract, and other project costs and commitments are recorded accurately and investigate unusual variances.
  • Lead the monthly project forecasting and work-in-progress processes; review forecasts for completeness and reasonableness; and identify profitability trends, margin risk, and corrective actions.
  • Support revenue recognition calculations and ensure project accounting practices follow company policy, contractual requirements, and established accounting controls.
  • Oversee AIA, progress, unit-price, and time-and-material billing; monitor retainage, unbilled revenue, and billing backlog; and help resolve customer billing questions or disputes.
  • Support monthly and year-end close, review project financial and profitability reports, and prepare clear management analyses and executive reporting.
  • Partner with project and operations leaders on job-cost accuracy, forecast quality, cash flow, closeout, and financial risk throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintain effective internal controls, provide documentation for internal and external audits, and lead approved improvements to ERP, reporting, and project accounting processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • At least 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years of construction or project accounting experience and 2 years of supervisory or team-lead experience.
  • Strong knowledge of construction job costing, forecasting, work-in-progress reporting, revenue recognition, retainage, subcontract accounting, cost-code structures, and construction billing.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with construction accounting, ERP, reporting, and document-management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to review project financial statements and job-cost reports, identify material variances or margin erosion, and explain findings to operational leaders.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, judgment, data-accuracy, confidentiality, and deadline-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA, CMA, or other relevant accounting credential.
  • Commercial mechanical, specialty-contractor, or multi-entity construction accounting experience.
  • Experience with COINS, Workday, Power BI, or similar accounting and reporting platforms.
  • Experience supporting a publicly traded parent company, internal audit requirements, or complex project portfolios.

What you can expect

  • Exceptional health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Paid Employee-Only Medical Coverage.
  • In-house and manufacturer-led training and leadership development.
  • Long-term career growth into operations, sales, technical, and/or leadership roles.
  • Comprehensive benefits package and employer-sponsored professional memberships.
  • 401(k) match, PTO, holiday pay, and more.
  • Eligibility for the annual incentive program based on role and plan terms.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a professional office environment. The employee regularly uses a computer, telephone, and standard office equipment and may sit or stand for extended periods. Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
