This is a highly hands-on role for someone who enjoys being close to the business, building strong relationships, solving problems, and moving quickly. You’ll work closely with the Director of People & Culture and broader People team to translate company-wide People strategies into an effective retail experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Director of People & Culture on employee relations matters, escalating higher-risk or complex issues appropriately.
  • Support and conduct low-risk employee relations investigations, including gathering information, documenting findings, and partnering with leadership on appropriate next steps.
  • Coach managers through performance management conversations, corrective action, attendance concerns, and other employee situations.
  • Promote consistency and fairness in the application of People policies and practices across retail locations.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and confidentiality throughout employee relations matters.

Employee Experience & Engagement

  • Help create a consistent Comfrt employee experience across all retail locations.
  • Partner with retail leadership to support engagement, recognition, succession planning, retention, and employee development initiatives.

  • Support People-related aspects of new store openings, including onboarding, training, employee communications, and organizational readiness.
  • Help assess People needs as the retail organization grows and make recommendations around staffing, structure, policies, training, and employee experience.
  • Support change management efforts associated with organizational growth, new processes, systems, and company initiatives.

  • Partner with People Operations and Payroll to identify and address potential timekeeping, payroll, attendance, and wage-and-hour issues.
  • Support required workplace training and compliance initiatives and ensure retail leaders understand applicable People policies and requirements.
  • Stay current on retail-specific People practices and employment trends, bringing recommendations around scheduling, staffing, retention, manager capability, and the hourly employee experience.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee documentation and support audits or compliance reviews as needed.
  • Partner with the Director of People & Culture and Legal on higher-risk employment matters and emerging compliance concerns.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of progressive HR / People & Culture experience, ideally supporting a multi-location retail workforce.
  • Proven experience partnering with leaders on employee relations, performance management, investigations, and day-to-day People matters.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and sound judgment handling sensitive matters.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, organization, and problem-solving skills.
