The posting

Position Type: Full-Time (FTE) Industry: Electrical Power Distribution / Switchgear

Role Overview

Client is seeking an experienced Application Engineer to serve as the technical bridge between sales, customers, and engineering. This individual will be responsible for quoting, scoping, and supporting customer requirements for low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear solutions.

The ideal candidate combines hands-on switchgear industry experience with strong commercial awareness, technical knowledge, and excellent customer communication skills. They should be comfortable discussing customer requirements, developing accurate quotes, and working with internal engineering teams to ensure proposed solutions meet project specifications.

Two Non-Negotiable Requirements

  1. Direct switchgear quoting experience: Must have personally prepared, developed, or owned quotes for low-voltage and/or medium-voltage switchgear. General electrical estimating or power distribution experience alone is not sufficient.
  2. Strong customer-facing skills: Must be comfortable communicating directly with customers, understanding technical requirements, explaining solutions, and collaborating with sales teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop technical and commercial quotes for low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear projects.
  • Scope customer requirements, review specifications, and identify appropriate switchgear configurations.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between sales, customers, and internal engineering teams.
  • Translate customer needs into clear technical requirements for engineering and design.
  • Review project specifications, drawings, and equipment requirements to support accurate proposals.
  • Communicate technical solutions, clarify requirements, and address customer questions throughout the quoting process.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations to ensure proposed solutions are technically feasible and aligned with customer expectations.

Skills & Qualifications

Required

  • Proven experience quoting and scoping switchgear equipment.
  • Strong working knowledge of low-voltage and/or medium-voltage switchgear and electrical power distribution systems.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with customers in a technical sales, application engineering, or engineering support capacity.
  • Ability to interpret electrical specifications, drawings, and customer requirements.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Highly Preferred

  • Experience with both low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear.
  • Previous experience as an Application Engineer, Sales Application Engineer, Proposal Engineer, or Switchgear Quotations Engineer.
  • Background working with switchgear OEMs or manufacturers such as ABB, Eaton, Schneider Electric, Siemens, or similar organizations.
  • Familiarity with switchgear configurations, equipment selection, pricing, and technical proposals.
  • Experience supporting custom-engineered or OEM power distribution solutions.

About Client

Client is expanding its OEM switchgear and power distribution equipment business, with a focus on low-voltage and medium-voltage systems and related power distribution solutions. As the business unit grows, the company is building out its technical and commercial capabilities to support customer projects, engineering requirements, and equipment delivery.

This role will play an important part in connecting customer needs with the company's engineering and sales functions.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
